I'm fighting with this track for a long time now. First drafts were created back in 2018 august. At the moment it was a post-rock / progressive rock epic that included every trick and practice i knew about music composition. Then i stopped writing music for a few years and it stayed in it's unreleased demo form for long.

Since last year i started this new electronic project, i thought some of my older, unrealised music should be repurposed to finally come to life. I pictured it will be a quite easy task.

Well, it was an extremely hard undertaking for me to strip this one to it's bare minimums and reshape it into a more ambient / chillout sounding thingy. But i learned so much about music and myself along the way...
I've written and erased melodies and chords in this track for so long that i could have written a whole album from the deleted ideas only.

The cover art is a Midjourney generated image with a strong influence from The Fountain (2006), a movie in which a man learns to let things go and embrace fate after a 500 years long journey. I think it is rather fitting.

Bien que ne sachant pas jouer de piano, j'ai composé en notes à notes 
 cette "maquette" faite au synthétiseur et enregistrée sur huit pistes avec mon micro BR Roland de poche (un instrument par piste).  j'ai essayé de créer une introduction solennelle, avec le même style pour finir, et de faire les passages du milieu moins dramatiques et plus légers.
Ma composition serait évidemment mieux interprétée par un orchestre avec de vrais musiciens, et de véritables instruments.  De plus lors du mixage ?, il s'est produit malheureusement une majoration du volume sonore et de la reverb des pizzicatos de violoncelles ! !

Freigeister (Free Spirits)

Introduction in English:
For many, November is the worst month. I particularly like it because it is the month that best expresses the Buddhist mantra of "And the end is the beginning". In November, almost all the trees are bare and most plants have faded. But in this "destruction" lies the seed of new life. 
November is the month that most clearly demonstrates that we sometimes have to radically let go of beliefs and attitudes that no longer help us move forward so that we can reposition ourselves and continue to develop.
And this month also makes it clear that we must fully accept dying and death as facts in order to keep the flywheel of life, which goes far beyond us, running. 
At the age of 60, I am still in the "October of life". However, October is already knocking strongly on the door of the unstoppable transformation processes that reach their climax in November. 
The song "Autumn is here" summarises these thoughts in the form of a French chanson. I chose this form because, in my view, the French language and the genre of the chanson come closest to the basic existential themes of life.

I had an idea in April. I wanted to create a chord progression where some notes of the chord were only present in the background synths, and some notes were only played in my usual delayed arpeggio patterns. I had no idea how it would sound. Well, it instantly blasted me away. This time, I loved my main theme so much that every other melody and riff felt lame right next to it. I had this 30-second loop of synthwave awesomeness, and I had no idea how to continue it. So it took me a while to finish and polish it into a whole piece. Fortunately, I got some help from my friend and great, great guitar virtuoso, @jonas_tamas.

I guess sooner or later I have to create a new musical project to separate my ambient and my more aggressive ideas. We’ll see.

"For We Are" is the second track I made for my upcoming album, TBA.
This is the first time I am intentionally writing pieces that should fit into a bigger work, realizing a single vision.

I'm still figuring out how far I can go with changing keys, instrumentation, and the overall feel. I want this to be a really tight fit, where every song has its place and meaningful impact in the overall composition.

Having said that, this might be the furthest I’ve swum from the shores of Vanishing Waves. While Vanishing Waves had a very important melodic motif, this time it’s purely a rhythmic experience.

This piece reuses some of the same instruments—the subtractive bass, the white noise textures, the piano, and my favorite FM presets I made. 
But it’s also the first track where I used granular synthesis, something I’m excited to integrate more into my soundscape. I also created a lovely Mellotron sound, which leads the whole experience.

I’m still learning how to write pieces in a major key—remember, before 2024, I only wrote music in minor keys for over 15 years. I'm glad I’ve finally found a way to enjoy these intervals and patterns in an honest way.

A few more months, and the album will be ready to set sail.
