Revan & Primitive Instinct - Back At It [Premiere]

An integral part of the Shogun Audio family, GEST once again showcase their heavy, techy, and rolling drum and bass sound with their second EP on the label: https://GEST.lnk.to/TheNexusSD

This latest body of work, entitled 'The Nexus' EP, connects all the fragments of their idiosyncratic, high-octane sound, acting as a captivating four-track frenzy that draws influence from early Detroit techno and D&B royalty alike.

Previously known as Gerra & Stone, the pair have risen rapidly in recent years with a finely polished sound that is truly unique to them. GEST lay out the blueprints of what they're all about with the opening sounds of 'Nexus', with a clear emphasis on the duos underground, dancefloor-oriented sound intertwined with an abundance of techno-inspired synth work throughout.

As we delve into the EP, 'Concentrate' adds yet another master-crafted roller to their collection of groove-centric tracks, whilst 'Stayed On My Mind' provides a melodious infusion of deep subs, beguiling vocal loops, and pronounced percussive elements to the EP.

Last, but by no means least, 'Reverence' sees GEST draw heavy influence from one of their heroes in the form of the late and great Marcus Intalex. Defined by crisp, rolling drums, ambient synth work, and an underlying aura of luxuriant atmosphere, the melodic, almost soothing melody intertwined with ‘Reverence’ clearly draws from the inspiration of Marcus Intalex’s legendary sound.

Hound and Chisel team up for the first offering, Dissever. An excellent display of the two producer’s respective sound palettes and confidently complimented with a featured verse from renowned UK lyricist Joe Raygun. Composed of dark and aggressive soundscapes, Dissever draws inspiration from the classic sounds of Deep, Minimal Drum and Bass. A vibe often executed in great style by both Hound and Chisel in their solo work.

About Chisel
Chisel is an emerging Drum & Bass DJ and producer from Christchurch, New Zealand. Drawing on a variety of influences, Chisel is home in the 170+ spectrum and his music traverses from soulful liquid to deep minimal and jungle. Carving out his own sound, 2021 saw the release of his first solo productions with SBK Recordings with many more releases in the works. He has gone on to perform at multiple festivals and club nights both individually, and as part of the duo Formatics, where he continues to host a weekly show on RDU 98.5 FM. 

About Hound
Lucas Iles is a deeply educated Drum and Bass producer and DJ performing under the name Hound. Hailing from the southern New Zealand city of Christchurch, Hound specialises in a sound not regularly heard within New Zealand’s pool of local producer talent. That being the deep and minimalistic sounds of underground Drum and Bass. Stacking up releases on labels such as New Zealand’s SBK, Australian outlet Plasma Audio and UK’s own Four Corners Music, Hound is well underway in finding his home in the underground Drum and Bass landscape.

About Raygun
Joe has been immersed in the scene since 2006 when he moved from London to Southampton for university and got involved with running Raygun Youth club nights amassing an incredible CV of legendary artists he has worked with. 
His brief tenure as a DJ saw him link up with Brighton based rapper Influx. The pair toured a live show extensively for a few years supporting the likes of Grandmaster Flash, Foreign Beggars, Devlin, Akala with appearances at festivals like NASS and Outlook. 
In the 8 years since picking up the mic Joe has played shows from the shores of Croatia to the jungles of Costa Rica and has provided vocal support for the likes of LTJ Bukem, Randall, Break, DJ Marky, Alix Perez, Om Unit, Youngsta to name just a few. Joe has released music on Flexout Audio, Proximity Recordings, Cyberfunk, Ram Records, Rebel Music, Uprise Audio and Overview and has his sights firmly set on releasing plenty more music in the near future with a number of exciting collaborations in the works with the likes of DJ Squarewave, Filip Motovunski, Creatures, Eddy Seven and his long time sparring partner MC Visionobi under their Rogue Jediii alias with producer/ DJ Taelimb.

First up we have Low:r on the remix of Aydn's "Through the Dark" Ft. Es Kay. This has been a sunny dub for a while, you'll have heard it floating around out London nights. A dip into Ben's darker side, he shows us his diversity as a producer, as he brings us a hard-hitting, powerful take on the track. Featuring the staple Low:r wubs, while also retaining the floaty, eclectic style of the original track, Ben has really set the bar high for this EP.
