Surprisingly little information can be found on the Forsströmsson sisters. Ulla and Britt were their names and they hailed from Mörrum in the region of Blekinge. A magazine feature from the period shows that they were performing in the 1980s. Most likely, they were active as musicians earlier too. This track is based on a polska of theirs. I composed additional material, to make it a four minute song. I also did the harmonization and composed all parts except for the main melody.

Systrarna Forsströmsson (The Forsströmsson sisters)

It started six months with our first Blade Runner tribute track, and after the great response it spawned the idea to make a whole album. We're approaching the creation of the music with a rig similar to Vangelis' original setup, of course including the Yamaha CS80, Roland VP-330 strings and Rhodes. On this track we also used the Prophet 5, Jupiter 4 and Analogue Solutions Vostok mk1. The working methods are also inspired by Vangelis, using a live and direct approach to capture the energy and feel of the original recordings where everything is played by hand. No midi is or will be used, only analog sequencers will be used.  

Together with a professional writer we're creating new small stories, called moments, that will be the themes for the music, and to please the eyes we're working with illustrators Kilian Eng and HR-FM for the creation of the album art. http://dwdesign.tumblr.com/ http://www.hr-fm.com/

'Sphere'

Background:
Cab Calloway is most known for slower "shout" numbers like "Minnie the Moocher" and "The Hideho Man", but Trickeration (1931) shows a quicker, punchier side. This doesn't stop the man from showing his patented vocal equilibristics, with and without words. In our version (started autumn 99 and finished in May 2000) we experimented with various ways to emulate this. For example, the speech synthesis divas Glove (Glottal Ove) and Ingemar (of Botongdjungelboken fame) were auditioned. We also tried "manual" speech synthesis with various synthesizers, but in the end we found that the best result came from the amazing software "VocalWriter". Apart from this, we have taken the uptempo crazy spirit of the original version to new levels, and also taken a quick trip to the land of Musique Concrete. The result was very bizarre but swinging and funny. Among the instruments, one can especially note the Clavinet D6 (forceful stride accompaniment) and the little Casio MT-31 (supplying everything except the rhythm during the first vocal chorus).

Interesting Facts:
In the original recording, the tempo gets gradually lower. We choose the other way.
Also, we were inspired by the thousands of schlager songs in which there key is raised by a semitone towards the end. To avoid being too heavily connected with that kind of music though, we didn't go all the way but raise the pitch by half a semitone only.

This is the Leadsound from Kitaros SilkRoad, originally played by the Minikorg 700S. This time the lead is created using Oakley dual Journeyman filters. The VCO is Corsynth Odyssey of sound. Delayed vibrato is created with Oakley VCO-LFO and VRG Ramp envelope into a Oakley Classic VCA.
