Beginning in the early 1970's, the genre of Blaxploitation cinema was originally directed toward African American audiences, but their use of funk and soul soundtracks played a crucial role in extending their appeal worldwide. Many of the songs (and derived samples) from these soundtracks played an influential part in the early days of hip-hop, whose emergence as a musical genre was also in the 1970's.

I originally performed a similar mix of this music live at Smoke & Barrel Tavern in Fayetteville, Arkansas on July 4th, 2013 for the DJ EJ's Wheels Of Steel Event "American Funk". I recorded this version at home using two turntables, a mixer, and a Rane SL3.

It is a live recording raw and uncut using only vinyl.
The mix is starting off with some folky hippie dance and psychedelic jazz, followed by some latin brazil funk and ends up with lots of tropical disco.
it is quite a wild trip but I bug out on it.
I´m sure it makes your body groove too.

Die Dramatic Funk Grooves gehen in die dritte Runde! Dieses Mal wurde noch tiefer gegraben, um noch mehr ungeahnte Schätze in Form von unveröffentlichten Rare Groove Diamanten ans Tageslicht zu befördern!
Beschränkten sich Volume 1 ausschließlich auf das britische Archiv der Themes International Music Library, Vol. 2 auf diverse britische Library Labels, so wurde nun der Radius auf Archive aus Deutschland, Frankreich, England und den USA ausgedehnt.

Die Blaxploitation ähnliche Sound-Ästhetik der 70er Jahre steht wieder im Fokus. Zwangsläufig wird das eigene Kopfkino angeregt, sich den Blockbuster selber zu kreieren: Treibende Verfolgungsjagd-Szenen, spannungsgeladene Detektiv Themen, coole Gangster in Cadillacs, etc… All das vermitteln die 20 bisher unveröffentlichten Perlen, die u. a. aus den Federn deutscher Jazzlegenden wie Dieter Reith, Manfred Schoof oder den britischen Elite Studiomusikern Keith Mansfield oder Simon Haseley (aka Simon Park) stammen.

Zahlreiche Club-Sureshots, die fetten Drum-Breaks und der schier unerschöpfliche Fundus an Sample Material lassen die Herzen von DJs und (Beat-)Produzenten schneller schlagen. Das die originalen Library Alben, von denen die Stücke entnommen wurden, zu Horrorsummen auf eBay gehandelt werden, versteht sich aufgrund der nie im Handel erhältlich gewesenen Muster-LPs von selbst…
Mögen die meisten Stücke dieses Albums weit über 30 Jahre auf ihrem Buckel haben, so klingen sie auch heute noch zeitgemäß. Angesichts der druckvollen Sounds und der reduzierten Arrangements könnte man so manche Songs als HipHop Instrumental Prototypen bezeichnen…

Dramatik und Nervenkitzel hin oder her, eines ist sicher: Die 20 Songs des Albums zerlaufen in einem Guss und machen verdammt viel Spaß!

Van Pratt is one of the finest 80s influenced Synth-pop/R&B producers in CDMX. His sound is raw and it feels so fresh. Whilst the space-ish pads and FM leads work fantastically to preserve the legacy of the Juno classic sound, the ad hoc use of samples makes Van Pratt’s work an interesting and original take on Disco, R&B and Nu-Disco. All the tracks are heavy on groove and flavor; tested and guaranteed.

​It’s hardly a secret that over the past decade Scandinavia has been
the epicenter of the nu-disco scene, artists like Lindstrom and Prins
Thomas turning out release after release that looked to the cosmos,
sparkling like exploding nebula. For Sweden’s Drop Out Orchestra
though escape velocity could be found not on the launchpad but in
the equally transcendent sweat filled club scene of New York in the
late 70s.
Taking their cues from original Disco pioneers such as MFSB as much as
DFA, Drop Out Orchestra launched themselves onto the scene in 2008
with a seemingly endless supply of bootlegs, re-edits and covers that
glittered like a frost covered mirror ball. Taking tracks by everyone from
TLC and Daft Punk to Rick Astley and The Sex Pistols they transformed
them into the kind of luxurious, gloriously sophisticated, and indeed
soulful disco, that would have made Chic proud.
With their irresistibly taut and funky bass lines, satin sheet strings and
never too much cowbell, The Drop Out Orchestra found themselves in
demand as official remixes for both club scene peers such as Black
Strobe and Flight Facilities and industry legends like Paul Weller.
Meanwhile not content with just making other people’s music 100%
more disco, original tracks, including collaborations with Ronika and
LCD Soundsytem’s Nancy Whang, on labels like Eskimo Recordings and
Gomma cementing their position as ones to watch.
Meanwhile whilst most their peers were transitioning to laptops and USB
sticks, Drop Out Orchestra continue to bring live elements back into the
dance music, not just in the studio but in the clubs too. Blurring the
divide between live and DJ performances by incorporating live bass
and electronics, a Drop Out Orchestra set is about as close to a
guaranteed party starter as you’ll get in this business and seen them
hand picked to play alongside everyone from Fatboy Slim to Gilles Peterson.

"Larry would preach through his music from the DJ booth, just like a minister or priest does from a pulpit," says DJ and close friend of Levan's David DePino. Levan delivered his sermon each weekend, from the club's opening in 1977 (while it was still in construction) to the day the Garage forever closed its doors in the summer of 1987.

Located, true to its name, in a parking garage on 84 King Street in Manhattan, it was one of the only clubs ever built for a specific DJ. As a venue it was relatively nondescript, but what it lacked in decor it made up for with its much-revered sound system and passionate members. The Garage's legend is synonymous with that of Levan, who was the club's resident DJ in the most literal sense; at one point even living in the building. He treated it with the reverence accorded to a house of worship: repositioning the sound system on the night, stopping his set at 2AM to polish the mirrorballs, and even ensuring that the bins were thoroughly cleaned. All of which seems unthinkable for a DJ today but then the Garage was more than just a club, it was Levan's vision of paradise.

For the Garage's congregation, the private membership policy offered them some sense of sanctuary and ownership. It was one of the few clubs in New York which the gay, and predominantly African-American and Latino, patrons could genuinely call their own. "The Garage was a place for people that were not accepted in society, a place from them to be free, to be who they are," says Victor Rosado, who worked at the club. Even with the momentum of the gay rights movement post-Stonewall, homophobic violence on the streets and police harassment continued largely unabated. "It took a while to build the trust of the gay community," says DePino. Eventually, the gay nights on Friday took off with the already popular Saturdays drawing a more mixed flock.

Levan delighted in playing tricks on both his friends and audience, whether by playing the same song over and over for an hour or jolting the dancefloor with a sudden blast of bass. But his signature technique was weaving a narrative from the sentiments and lyrics of the records he played, describing each as a new sentence or paragraph in the stories he was trying to tell over his 12 hour sets."

The exhibition was enjoyed by many, especially youngsters new to the pop art style and music of the time.
