Daring escape plans! Hot-wiring cars and doing sick stunts! There's high-octane action all of a sudden in this story, and we discuss what works, what doesn't, and what makes a good genre crossover tick.

We get some Parisian updates and stories from Ed. Then we enter the mind palace of a libertarian who, with all the annoying pretension of a philosophy major, tried to make ChatGPT say the word. We wrap up with a discussion of the “year of efficiency” in Silicon Valley as the biggest four tech companies are rewarded with over $800 billion in market cap for making massive job cuts, massive stock buybacks, and massive investments in AI.

The Hunger Games Part One Chapters 2 & 3

We're the tip of the spear! Or maybe just the shaft. It seems the whole world decided to reread this series around the same time we did, so we discuss a little bit of what we're seeing out and about in the world and how it's shaping our expectations. We also chat about a recent TV show announcement... that's right, the Twilight one!

After that, we've got two cool chapters to discuss. Neither of us have read this series before, so this time we're organizing our thoughts in real time as we ponder character voice vs. author voice, how we think the government works, what the allegories at play might be, and whether or not there are mutant dogs engaging in open warfare with mutant birds just outside the walls of Panem.

SHHG! Episode 2: Patch Notes

I added to @encym's excellent, guitar-based, track, Frugality (https://soundcloud.com/encym/the-loneliest-number-disquiet0591?si=c7a742bc48e04018b5249a736278acdb&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing). I used this as an exercise in MIDI processing in Ableton. I used a MIDI pitch tracker on a filtered version of the original track (to reduce the range of notes), then passed the MIDI to two tracks with Arturia's Augmented Strings (both with a bass pizzicato patch, with slight variations). The MIDI was processed with MIDI echo and note length changes and arpeggiated in both cases. In one case the scale was forced into a Hungarian Minor.
