Uptown Energy's Shuga Kwame releases a new track, "My Blood Dey Hot" - the follow up to his underground anthem "Crazy". Known for his keen interest in politics, Shuga Kwame explores some of the multiple issues facing Ghanaians in his own 'State of the Nation address'.

His use of Akan metaphors voice, and help to illuminate the current concerns of the Ghanaian disenchanted (of all ages) who are able to empathise with his assessment of the country's current status.  Hot widely debated topics such as leadership, development, religious businesses, sanitation and the music industry are all dealt with in Kwame's signature energetic and straightforward style.

Biography

Ashaiman born and raised, Shuga Kwame is Ghana’s newest independent musical talent.  Kwame’s love for music and singing was apparent at a young age and helped him gain the position of head choirester at his local Church.  It was in the Golf City neighbourhood in Tema that he met lifelong friends, Yaa Pono and Joe Black with whom he went on to form (with other talented friends listed below) the well known clique – Uptown Energy.  The aim of the clique is to promote and direct ghetto youth to achieve their goals by studying, working hard, remaining dedicated to their chosen field.
Fusing Hiplife and Afropop with elements of Dancehall, the directness of Kwame’s lyrics combine to hit eardrums with a ‘quiet heat.’  Citing musical influences such as Vybez Kartel, Yaa Pono and Fela Kuti, Kwame’s style is dynamic and may very well surprise the Ghanaian music industry.
His experience as Yaa Pono’s hype man and backing singer at Pidgen Music has afforded Kwame the opportunity to work with a selection of Ghana’s brightest talents, whilst branching out into solo material is a natural progression.   Shuga Kwame has toured extensively throughout Ghana as Yaa Pono’s backup singer and hype man.   Most notably in Accra, Koforidua, Odaa, Takoradi and Kumasi accompanying and supporting Pono during electrifying performances at the 2013 “Felabration” in Lagos, Nigeria.
