If I can’t face the quiet truth in me,

When fear says stay, I answer: move.
Let small good tilt the room.
I won’t die in grey, I’m dying into color.

Old fear behind the eyes, steady as a wire.
We named it truth, still it hid the blade.
We named it love, tallied every debt.
Heat in the chest that will not loosen,
because our losses never got their names.
Give them names, set them down.

We call our noise a calling— is it?
We call control a rescue— is it?
If I can’t be plain with me,
how plain could I be with you?
