This sutra was initiated by Shakyamuni Buddha, at the end of a retreat in Vaishali. Present were monks, bodhisattvas, ghosts, nagas and rakshas: an audience of many different types of beings. Among them was a bodhisattva called Supreme Joy, who posed 17 questions concerning how a bodhisattva can help all sentient beings. These questions lead us outside the limits of conventional thinking, to consider what it means to have genuine compassion for the multiplicity of sentient beings. This eon is good because more than 1,000 Buddhas and more than 84,000 ways of accessing the truth will appear.

Nepal is a magical land with a very strong cultural connection to the Buddhadharma. Many stories are told about the activities of buddhas and bodhisattvas, and the landscape itself is highly symbolic: Kathmandu is said to be planned by Manjushri and its amazing crafts to be manifestations of his activity. Culture is so important, but all cultures hijack the Buddhadharma with their own interpretations of what is in essence so simple: awakening to the truth. We need to be mindful about culture, yet we need these symbols and legends to communicate about the Buddhadharma.

Practising vipassana is all about experiencing life directly. Sadhana is a systematic means to reach a goal. Though traditional sadhana practice might involve ritual offerings and visualisation of deities, the ultimate goal is to have this direct experience. Traditionally, vipassana practice is associated with sitting straight and focusing on the breath. This practice has much merit and should be upheld, but to apply vipassana in the modern world we need to adopt a much more abundant and infinite approach. We need to train our minds through the contemplation of impermanence, “unsatisfactoriness” (dukkha) and emptiness to find the courage to go outside our comfort zones, to see the world as it is and find liberation through a direct experience of the truth.

Tsewang Lhamo - One of the most famous and sexiest Tibetan female artist in our time and she put all her heart and soul into every song she sing. Her glamorous look and nightingale like vocal makes everyone crazy over her.

གསེར་སེར་པོའི་གོང་ན་གསེར་ཞིག་ཡོད། ཚེ་དབང་ལྷ་མོ།
Translation of the song in English:

There is a gold more precious than gold
Vowels and 30 consonants are more important than the gold
Tibetans who wish to obtain gold,
Learn the spoken and written Tibetan language
Learn the spoken and written Tibetan language.

There is a silver more precious than the white silver
Tibet's environment is more precious than the silver
Tibetans who wish to obtain silver wealth,
Preserve and protect the roof of the world
Preserve and protect the roof of the world.

There is a jewellery more precious than the jewellery
Tibetan people are more precious than the jewellery
Tibetans who wish to obtain jewellery wealth,
Work for and maintain the unity among ourselves
Work for and maintain the unity among ourselves.

Tsewang Lhamo - གསེར་སེར་པོའི་གོང་ན་གསེར་ཞིག་ཡོད། "Ser Serpoi Gongna Ser Shik Yoe"

Although the Buddha taught only one ultimate truth, because listeners of the teachings come from a wide variety of backgrounds, minds and elements, there are many different sutras.  Here, Rinpoche presents the Thousand Hands Sutra, revisiting it for many reasons: one being because it’s very popular in Korea and another, because it is one of the most celebrated sutras of theTang Dynasty in of China.  In this particular sutra, the Buddha talks about the dharani (mantra) of Avalokiteshvara (Bodhisattva of Great Compassion).  Reading and/or saying this dharani out loud, you can accumulate a lot of merit.  And Rinpoche teaches on the meaning and character of this dharani, which in essence is its great compassion.

Today we share with you a recording of H.H. Drikung Kyabgön Chetsang Rinpoche reciting our third text in this well-being series, "Tārā Who Protects from the Eight Dangers," as well as one of Ani Jasmine reading the text in English.
