Dedication “Protecting All Beings” (Toh 286) is a prayer of dedication that strongly resonates with the later Tibetan literature of mind training (blo sbyong). In addition to the classic element of dedication of merit to all beings, a substantial part of the text comprises a passage that enumerates the many faults, shortcomings, and afflictions that burden sentient beings, as well as the many possible attainments that they consequently may not have realized, and culminates in the wish that everything negative that would otherwise ripen for sentient beings may ripen instead for the reciter, so that all sentient beings would thus be liberated and purified.

During the solar eclipse of 21 June 2020 Siddhartha's Intent hosted a global recitation of the Samantabhadra Aspiration Prayer.
We were fortunate to receive a teaching from Rinpoche, who painted a picture of the mind that, for lack of a better word, "composed" a prayer which has no composer: our naked cognisance, our naked awareness. The Kuntuzangpo prayer is just there; it's being recited and answered all the time. When a beautiful sunrise appears, if the owl doesn't see it because it's blind, too bad! If we can't see these prayers that are being answered, we're like an owl. There's not much we can do, just pray not to be an owl, which is what we do when we recite the prayer.

Our newly published text "The Dhāraṇī of Parṇaśavarī" is the focus of the fourth episode in our Sūtras for Well-Being series, that explores sūtras traditionally recited for resilience and well-being during times of adversity, and the stories behind them. And today we are thrilled to be able to share with you a recitation of this text in Tibetan by His Holiness 41st Sakya Trichen; as well as a reading in English [by Catherine Fordham]. 

"The Dhāraṇī of Parṇaśavarī" [https://read.84000.co/translation/toh736.html] is a short incantation dedicated to the piśācī Parṇaśavarī, who is renowned in Buddhist lore for her power to cure disease, avert epidemics, pacify strife, and otherwise protect those who recite her dhāraṇī from any obstacles they may face.

Ep. 4 | Tibetan | "The Dhāraṇī of Parṇaśavarī" recited by His Holiness 41st Sakya Trichen

his short text marks the fifth episode in 84000's Sūtras for Well-Being series, a look at the sūtras traditionally recited for resilience and well-being in times of adversity, and the stories behind them. The Aspiration Prayer from “Destroyer of the Great Trichiliocosm" contains a set of verses spoken by the Buddha as he put an end to the epidemic of Vaiśālī, extracted from one of the two main accounts of that episode. The verses call for well-being, especially by invoking the qualities of the Three Jewels and a range of realized beings and eminent gods. The text comprises two passages from the parent work, and of these the first and longest corresponds closely to a well-known Pali text, the Ratana-sutta, widely recited for protection and blessings.
