Scott Gilmore just dropped his new LP on International Feel Recordings, in support of that most excellent of releases the LA based musician has delivered a brilliant collection of tracks from all over the map, including a bunch of cassette rarities alongside his own works and collaborations, including a couple of tracks from the new LP. There's even a charming home recording composed at a party where guests were taken into a studio throughout the night to record vocals. Over the course of the three-quarter hour we're taken through the cinematic worlds of 1980s Japanese synth-pop, to sauntering Noughties electronica, into blissful Ethio-jazz, Dutch gypsy-Jazz and 70s Canadian ambient. Apollo welcomes the return of Sieren 

Matthias Frick AKA Sieren returns to Apollo with his most personal EP to date. 

The ‘Fading Memory EP’ showcases Frick’s blissed out post bass atmospherics as they delve deep into bittersweet emotions and dissolving memories. 

’Move On’ opens the release, with cycling plagent pads, are counterpointed by dark bass and bumping percussion, ‘In Limbo’ introduces nervous unease through swelling side chained 2-step drums hissing ambiance and crystalline pads. ‘Break Sum 1’ provides the EP’s most heartfelt moment, yearning vocals and an uplifting melodic synth figure glisten with light for a beautiful soundscape. ‘Two Faces’ keeps the mood reflective with ‘verb drenched pads punctured by skittering, playful drum programming. ‘Dissolve’ rounds out the EP in similarly emotive territory, angelic yet melancholic and cycling female vocals. 

This is richly textured and intricately programmed electronica sure to satisfy fans of Burial, dBridge, Synkro with its soulful sincerity and warmth.

Cnidae is a Latin word for specific cells present among jellyfish, sea anemones, corals etc. It is these cells that separate cnidarians from other animals. Cnidarians are built in a very simple way, lacking skeleton animals. They seem to be innocent and beautiful, but there is also a sense of mystery, weirdness and wobbliness in them. They use cnidae, explosive cells, to capture prey and as a defence from predators. They do so by the use of toxins contained within the cnidae. If you have ever been stung by a jellyfish or felt the electric tingle from the tentacles of a sea anemone, you have been touched by cnidae.

cnidae is the sixth album released on the Ransom Note Records offshoot Bytes. jik is Paula, 21, and Bartek, 23, students based in Warsaw, Poland. cnidae is their debut album. Paula’s raw sketches formed the basis for almost all of the tracks. They were made in Ableton Intro, proof that constraints can be beneficial and also a reminder that great music doesn’t have to be created on sophisticated gear.

The album is made up of two extended ambient/drone pieces, embedded alongside several shorter, abstract electronic compositions. You are hearing 'arp', which falls into the latter category. Its beauty lies in its simplicity. The reflective, moving track is reminiscent of early AI-era Warp Records, with its lush pads and twinkling melody.
