ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਹੋ।
O Lord! Thou art eh king of all kings and Gracious towards the poor

ਆਪੇ ਆਪੁ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜਾ ॥
aape aap gareeb nivaajaa ||
ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਗ਼ਰੀਬਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਡਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ।
Be Benevolent towards me,

ਦਾਸ ਜਾਨ ਕਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਮੁਹਿ ॥
dhaas jaan kar kirapaa karahu muh ||
(ਆਪਣਾ) ਦਾਸ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੋ।
Considering me as Thy own,

ਹਾਰਿ ਪਰਾ ਮੈ ਆਨਿ ਦਵਾਰਿ ਤੁਹਿ ॥੪੩੮॥
haar paraa mai aan dhavaar tuh ||438||
ਮੈਂ ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਦੁਆਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾ ॥੪੩੮॥
Because, I have surrendered and fallen at Thy Gate.438.

ਅਪੁਨਾ ਜਾਨਿ ਕਰੋ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰਾ ॥
apunaa jaan karo pratipaaraa ||
ਆਪਣਾ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰੋ।
Sustain me, considering me as Thy own

ਤੁਮ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੈ ਕਿੰਕਰ ਥਾਰਾ ॥
tum saahib mai ki(n)kar thaaraa ||
ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੋ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਦਾਸ ਹਾ।
Thou art my Lord and I am Thy slave

ਦਾਸ ਜਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਹਾਥਿ ਉਬਾਰੋ ॥
dhaas jaan kai haath aubaaro ||
(ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ) ਦਾਸ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ, ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਬਚਾ ਲਵੋ।
Considering me as Thy slave,

ਹਮਰੇ ਸਭ ਬੈਰੀਅਨ ਸੰਘਾਰੋ ॥੪੩੯॥

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਤੁਝਹਿ ਸੁਝੰਤਾ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
(ਹੇ ਕਾਇਆਂ!) ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਠਾਠ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਆਕੜਦੀ ਹੈਂ,
You know nothing.

ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ ਦੇਖੇ ਊਭਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
(ਇਸ ਆਕੜ ਵਿਚ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਸੁਰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੀ ।
Seeing your clothes, you are so proud of yourself.

ਗਰਬਵਤੀ ਕਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥
(ਵੇਖ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ (ਹੁੰਦਾ),
The proud bride shall not find a place with the Lord.

ਤੇਰੀ ਗਰਦਨਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਲਵੈ ਕਾਉ ॥੧॥
ਤੇਰੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਆਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ (ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਝੂਠਾ ਮਾਣ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈਂ) ।੧।
Above your head, the crow of death is cawing. ||1||

ਤੂ ਕਾਂਇ ਗਰਬਹਿ ਬਾਵਲੀ ॥
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਮਲੀ ਕਾਇਆਂ! ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈਂ?
Why are you so proud? You are insane.

ਜੈਸੇ ਭਾਦਉ ਖੂੰਬਰਾਜੁ ਤੂ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਖਰੀ ਉਤਾਵਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਖੁੰਬ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਭੀ ਛੇਤੀ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ ਜੋ ਭਾਦਰੋਂ ਵਿਚ (ਉੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Even the mushrooms of summer live longer than you. ||1||Pause||

ਜੈਸੇ ਕੁਰੰਕ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਓ ਭੇਦੁ ॥
(ਹੇ ਕਾਇਆਂ!) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਭੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਕਿ ਕਸਤੂਰੀ ਦੀ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ (ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ),
The deer does not know the secret;

ਤਨਿ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਢੂਢੈ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸੁ ॥
ਪਰ ਉਹ ਪਰਦੇਸ ਢੂੰਢਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੇਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੈ) ।
the musk is within its own body, but it searches for it outside.

ਅਪ ਤਨ ਕਾ ਜੋ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ),
Whoever reflects on his own body

ਤਿਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਮਕੰਕਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਮਦੂਤ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ।੨।
- the Messenger of Death does not abuse him. ||2||

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਕਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
(ਹੇ ਕਾਇਆਂ!) ਤੂੰ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤੇ ਵਹੁਟੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈਂ
The man is so proud of his sons and his wife;

ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਮਗਨਹਾਰੁ ॥
(ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਬੈਠੀ ਹੈਂ, ਚੇਤਾ ਰੱਖ) ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ
his Lord and Master shall call for his account.

ਫੇੜੇ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਹੈ ਜੀਉ ॥
(ਭਾਵ), ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The soul suffers in pain for the actions it has committed.

ਪਾਛੇ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਹਿ ਪੀਉ ਪੀਉ ॥੩॥
(ਹੇ ਕਾਇਆਂ! ਜਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਨਿਕਲ ਜਾਣ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ) ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ‘ਪਿਆਰਾ, ਪਿਆਰਾ’ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਵਾਜਾਂ ਮਾਰੇਂਗੀ? ।੩।
Afterwards, whom shall you call, ""Dear, Dear.""||3||

ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਜਉ ਲੇਹਿ ਓਟ ॥
(ਹੇ ਕਾਇਆਂ!) ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਏਂ,
If you seek the Support of the Holy,

ਤੇਰੇ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਪਾਪ ਸਭ ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ॥
ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ।
millions upon millions of your sins shall be totally erased.

ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਜੋੁ ਜਪੈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ,
Says Ravi Daas, one who chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord,

ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਜੋਨਿ ਕਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੧॥
ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਨੀਵੀਂ) ਜਾਤ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੂਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਾਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ।੪।੧।
is not concerned with social class, birth and rebirth. ||4||1||

ਮਨੁੱਖ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਇੱਕ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦੇ
If you are conscious, then be conscious of Him night and day, O mortal.

ਛਿਨੁ ਛਿਨੁ ਅਉਧ ਬਿਹਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਫੂਟੈ ਘਟ ਜਿਉ ਪਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
chhin chhin aaudh bihaat hai fooTai ghaT jiau paanee ||1|| rahaau ||
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤ੍ਰੇੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਘੜੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਣੀ (ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ) ਇਕ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਮਰ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ
Each and every moment, your life is passing away, like water from a cracked pitcher. ||1||Pause||

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਕਾਹਿ ਨ ਗਾਵਹੀ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
har gun kaeh na gaavahee moorakh agiaanaa ||
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ! ਹੇ ਬੇ-ਸਮਝ! ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਾਂਦਾ? 
Why do you not sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, you ignorant fool?

ਝੂਠੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਲਾਗਿ ਕੈ ਨਹਿ ਮਰਨੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
jhoottai laalach laag kai neh maran pachhaanaa ||1||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ (ਭੀ) ਚੇਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ।੧।
You are attached to false greed, and you do not even consider death. ||1||

ਅਜਹੂ ਕਛੁ ਬਿਗਰਿਓ ਨਹੀ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
ajahoo kachh bigario nahee jo prabh gun gaavai ||
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ (ਭਾਵੇਂ ਸਿਮਰਨ-ਹੀਨਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਉਮਰ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਚੁਕੀ ਹੋਵੇ) ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ
Even now, no harm has been done, if you will only sing God's Praises.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਭਜਨ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੧॥
kahu naanak teh bhajan te nirabhai padh paavai ||2||1||
ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਭਜਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਦਰਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।੨।੧।
Says Nanak, by meditating and vibrating upon Him, you shall obtain the state of fearlessness. ||2||1||

ਜਿਤੁ ਦਰਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਕਵਨੁ ਦਰੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਦਰਾ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਦਰੁ ਕਵਨੁ ਲਹੈ ॥
(ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਜਿਸ ਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈਂ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ), ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਗੁਪਤ ਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ । 
Where is that door, where You live, O Lord? What is that door called? Among all doors, who can find that door?

ਜਿਸੁ ਦਰ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਫਿਰਾ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਕੋਈ ਆਇ ਕਹੈ ॥੧॥
(ਜਿਥੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੈਂ (ਚਿਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਲੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਕੋਈ (ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ) ਆ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਥਾਂ ਦੱਸੇ ।੧।
For the sake of that door, I wander around sadly, detached from the world; if only someone would come and tell me about that door. ||1||

ਕਿਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥
(ਸਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿੱਥ ਪਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਜਦ ਤਕ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਨ ਲੰਘੀਏ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਕਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੰਘੀਏ? 
How can I cross over the world-ocean?

ਜੀਵਤਿਆ ਨਹ ਮਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਜੀਊਂਦਿਆਂ ਮਰਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ (ਤੇ, ਜਦ ਤਕ ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਮਰੀਏ ਨਾਹ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤਰਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
While I am living, I cannot be dead. ||1||Pause||

ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ ਰੋਹੁ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਦੁਇ ਪਟ ਜੜੇ ॥
ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਹਿਜ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਦੇ ਆਸਣ ਉਤੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਐਸੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ) ਬੈਠਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ, ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈ, ਆਸਾ ਤੇ ਸਹਿਮ (ਉਸ ਦੁੱਖ-ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ) ਦੋ ਭਿੱਤ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ । 
Pain is the door, and anger is the guard; hope and anxiety are the two shutters.

ਮਾਇਆ ਜਲੁ ਖਾਈ ਪਾਣੀ ਘਰੁ ਬਾਧਿਆ ਸਤ ਕੈ ਆਸਣਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਰਹੈ ॥੨॥
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਖਾਈ (ਪੁੱਟੀ ਹੋਈ) ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਭਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ) ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਹਿਰਦਾ-) ਘਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ।੨।
Maya is the water in the moat; in the middle of this moat, he has built his home. The Primal Lord sits in the Seat of Truth. ||2||

ਕਿੰਤੇ ਨਾਮਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਤੁਮ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਹਰੇ ॥
(ਇਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਘਿਰੇ ਪਏ ਹਨ, ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਤੇਰੇ ਕਈ ਨਾਮ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ । ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੇਰੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ । 
You have so many Names, Lord, I do not know their limit. There is no other equal to You.

ਊਚਾ ਨਹੀ ਕਹਣਾ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੩॥
(ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਭਾਵ) ਉੱਚੀ ਬੋਲ ਕੇ ਦੱਸਣ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਹੀ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ । ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸਭ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Do not speak out loud - remain in your mind. The Lord Himself knows, and He Himself acts. ||3||

ਜਬ ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਕਹੈ ॥
ਜਦ ਤਕ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀਆਂ) ਆਸਾਂ ਹਨ, ਤਦ ਤਕ ਸਹਿਮ-ਫ਼ਿਕਰ ਹਨ (ਸਹਿਮਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਕਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ । 
As long as there is hope, there is anxiety; so how can anyone speak of the One Lord?

ਆਸਾ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੁ ਮਿਲੈ ॥੪॥
ਪਰ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਸਾ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੀ ਆਸਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
In the midst of hope, remain untouched by hope; then, O Nanak, you shall meet the One Lord. ||4||

ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ॥
(ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ, ਬੱਸ!) ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤਰੀਕਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ, 
In this way, you shall cross over the world-ocean.

ਜੀਵਤਿਆ ਇਉ ਮਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੩॥
ਤੇ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵੰਦਿਆਂ ਮਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ।੩।

Bilaaval, Fifth Mehla:

ਤਾਤੀ ਵਾਉ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ (ਵਿਆਧੀਆਂ ਦਾ) ਸੇਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ । 
The hot wind does not even touch one who is under the Protection of the Supreme Lord God.

ਚਉਗਿਰਦ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਰਾਮ ਕਾਰ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਇਕ ਲਕੀਰ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ ।੧।
On all four sides I am surrounded by the Lord's Circle of Protection; pain does not afflict me, O Siblings of Destiny. ||1||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਦਵਾਈ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ) ਵਿਓਂਤ ਬਣਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ 
I have met the Perfect True Guru, who has done this deed.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਦੀਆ ਏਕਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਦਵਾਈ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
He has given me the medicine of the Lord's Name, and I enshrine love for the One Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਤਿਨਿ ਰਖਨਹਾਰਿ ਸਭ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਉਸ ਰੱਖਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਬਚਾ ਲਿਆ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਰੇਕ ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, 
The Savior Lord has saved me, and eradicated all my sickness.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੨॥੧੫॥੭੯॥
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ।੨।੧੫।੭੯।
Says Nanak, God has showered me with His Mercy; He has become my help and support. ||2||15||79||
