I always welcome new music, new connections, new friendships that then come along. In this example, a track premiere by Joachim Spieth at the end of last year made me relisten to his works on Wolfgang Voigt’s  Pop Ambient series, taking me to releases on his very own Affin imprint and finally asking him for a mix. In this process, this seemingly random stranger quickly became a musical friend, as we exchanged grand ideas and connected with music. I really appreciated the spectrum of electronic music genres covered on Spieth’s German label and requested that he showcased the output through a traversal of styles. The result is a beautiful 90-minute journey that will take you from soothing to upbeat, through highs and through lows. I’m very happy with how it turned out and honoured to host this showcase on Headphone Commute.

A year of discoveries. Thinking back through the last year, there has been a plethora of fantastic labels, and artists that have passed under the Sundays banner. This Sunday and month in general also marks the second year of monthly playlists, and guest mixes. The latter of which is our focus for today as we welcome an incredible producer, Inhmost. From beat to beat-less, his refined approach to crafting ambient mixes provides listeners with auditory tales that flow so well, all while working in a variety of moods and feelings. Fresh off the release of his anticipated debut full-length, “Derealization”, issued a few weeks ago on Ego Death, Detroit-based producer Uun clocks in our podcast series to deliver some of his vehemently rugged and dark gospel, and to which effect! With a number of choice releases under his belt for some of the most highly-regarded techno labels out there (MORD, Semantica, Modularz…), Uun is one to indulge in the harsher, choppier side of industrial rhythms, more keen on point-blank bazooka hits than long-distance minimal sniper-ism if he where to choose a side. His RYC mix features the very brain-melting character of his compositions and we’re delighted to count him on board. Campfire Stories 54 (Last Light) by Mohlao

Coming up in the music scene of Kansas City and currently residing in Detroit, @uun developed his interest in the fringes of sound as a guitarist in multiple bands before turning his focus to techno in 2012. Both his early work as a band member and his current work as a techno producer share a common exploration of darkness both in mood and in execution. Hard Wax described Uun's sound as a "straight ahead techno juggernaut.", As well as releasing on Mord, Dynamic Reflection and many more, he has his own imprint Titled Ego Death. This is a studio recording mix, it consists of all original material, much of it unreleased.

Having been producing and performing since 2010, Uun has been a staple of the techno scene for many years. His mind melting live performance have been featured at many institutions, including Movement Festival in Detroit, Tresor in Berlin, Khidi in Tbilisi, and Basement in NYC. Resident Advisor referred to this ability to work within many different imprints and styles as “quietly infiltrating techno”, and compared his music to the latter days of the Sandwell District.

He is perhaps best known as a producer, having released substantial work on some of the most respected underground techno labels, including Mord, Semantica, and Soma. The genre defining record store Hard Wax described Uun's sound as a "straight ahead techno juggernaut." He also has his own label titled Ego Death, where he releases his most genre defying material.
