2013 saw Silicone Soul celebrating the 10th Anniversary of their Darkroom Dubs imprint. Launched in Glasgow back in 2003, the DRD stamp has become a mark of quality and seen many established names exploring deeper realms whilst also unearthing fresh and exciting global talent. 

From Fabric to Watergate, The Standard Rooftop to Club Bahrein Buenos Aires, the Scottish duo have celebrated their disco-decade with a string of '10 Year' parties spread across the last 12 months, building on Darkroom Dubs already strong global reach. 

To round off their birthday in style Craig and Graeme have asked some of the label's main acts and strongest supporters to contribute a track for a new compilation. Artists including jozif, Ryan Crosson, Uner, Gary Beck, Of Norway and Simon Garcia all feature in the collection that Silicone Soul present as a snapshot of the future sound and musical vision of Darkroom Dubs. 

Due for release Feb 24th 2014 on double 12" vinyl and download.

Herbert: Monaberry’s totem old timer, Super Flu’s dear old Opa, house music’s favourite septuagenarian and all round legend returns…

It’s been a while since he last curated a Monaberry collection (his hearing aid kaput throughout 2015)The last time being summer 2014 with Monaberry’s now-vintage ’25 Years Monaberry’ collection. But now he’s dusted off his curating cap, gently leant his walking stick against the wall, shouted “what?” a lot of times, moaned about his clicky knees, yearned for the good old days and, finally, put together one of the Halle-based label’s most beautiful collections to date.
 
Fresh out of the care home, Herb’s first pick – Super Flu & Viktor Talking Machine’s ‘Plastik’ – leads with the gusto of a man a third of his age: a twinkling arpeggio gazes up to clear night skies building in momentum with the beats and a pulsating bassline. Laced with a dramatic breakdown, you’d be advised to stash this one for the next festival marathon.

The melodic tech textures continue as Herb welcomes Boston’s Robot Love to the Monaberry fold with the touching slice of anthemia that is ‘Numbers Station’. A clipped hook gently persists with chiselled insistency. Timeless and driving, Herb tells us he picked it because it’s great to walk around the supermarket really really slowly to. We love it because it will take your dancefloor to a whole new level. Last spotted on ’25 Years Monaberry’, fellow Halle hero Martin Waslewski returns with a wistful piano-primed stroller that sees Herb striding gently but confidently towards a destination unknown (probably the chemist to
get his meds). No walking stick required. Monaberry mainstays Hanne & Lore take old Herb (or Herbie to those in the know) out to the choppy tech seas late at night, sharpen up their finest synth hook and reel in a big one. Like all fresh produce, ‘Tuna In’ is crisp to the taste and will satiate the hungriest of dancefloors. Having previously remixed Super Flu, Dortmunder Philhamoniker and Philipp Armbruster’s ‘Volkwein’, Bebetta returns to Monaberry with her label debut; an ageless groove powered by soft chord changes, mild jazz
textures and faraway crackles, it’s Herbert’s favourite for fireside chats. Finally, Parra For Cuva brings us to a touching finale. Just in time for Herb’s afternoon nap, ‘Borneo’ is awash with dreamy lilts, lingering instrumentation and positive chords. All brought together by shimmering guitar strums and cosmic ripples, listen closely and you can hear Herb smoke-belching in sync with the splashing cymbals. 

Respect your elders, respect the grooves, respect one another: 2016 is about to commence and Herbie’s picked the winning soundtrack to break it in.

Ever wondered what a butch Diana Ross on acid might sound like…? Well you're about to find out… but before we get to "Overside", you've gotta enjoy and marvel at the sheer brilliance of the rest of Jairo Catelo's latest offering on Silicone Soul's Darkroom Dubs.
 
Our man from the Asturias has rapidly built a strong and loyal following thanks to his beautifully crafted house cuts. Jairo's ability to bring together dubby textures and an innate Soul within his productions is most enviable. His "Warehouse" ep features three original new cuts backed by a rework from French house guru, Phil Weeks.
 
Lead cut "Soul School" is something of a two-headed beast. Whilst its kick-drum and dramatic synth stabs drive it with a serious dose of funk, it still retains a warm-summer soul that will keep the fillies moving. Then, as a little sax break goes to our head, we're flipped and the beats and bass get sleazy and old school. Killer!
 
Mr. Weeks beings some '90's flow to the table on his remix. Working the guitar licks and bassline hard but always retaining a smooth as silk groove, Phil shows just how to keep the dancefloor cookin'. A beautiful house record from one of the very best.
 
'Yairo's 303 Acid' mix of "Overside" finds us getting upside down and inside out. Serious funk with an injection of some classic acid styles. Final cut "The Shake" sees Jairo roll out drums. A lazy bassline is swarmed by ripping snares and a host of percussive sites and sounds. A perfect close to a pretty much perfect ep.
