As the longest night of the year approaches, the veil of the winter solstice settles over the land. A moment where shadow stretches its fingers to their fullest reach, and the cold air hangs thick with ritual, reflection, and rebirth. Warlock Audio’s upcoming various-artists album, The Turning Rite, is forged in that twilight space: ten tracks, each a collaborative incantation created by pairs of artists channeling the season’s deep magic. It is an album shaped by communion; between producers, between darkness and light, between what we release at the dying of the year and what we beckon forward into the new one.
To guide listeners through this sonic rite, Soul Chemical steps forward with a mini-mix crafted like a wandering path through ancient halls. The journey begins at the threshold, where frost glitters on stone and a distant pulse draws you in. Soul Chemical treats the mix not as a compilation, but as a narrative, weaving each track into the next as though turning pages in a spellbook co-written by ten pairs of alchemists.
You’re led through shifting chambers of sound: cavernous atmospheres echo with spectral pads; percussion strikes like ceremonial firelight in a frozen forest; basslines rumble like something awakening beneath ice. The collaborations themselves become characters; duos whose chemistry forms new, unpredictable shades of darkness. Some moments stalk and scowl with tech-stepped menace, others swell with vast, cinematic tension. Yet throughout, Soul Chemical shapes the flow with intention, letting the energy rise and retreat like torchlight flickering in a midnight storm.
As the mix deepens, it begins to feel less like a listening session and more like a rite performed in motion; an initiation into the world of The Turning Rite. Every blend becomes a hinge in the ritual, every drop a shifting of the unseen gears that mark the turning of the year.
