For our Silky Session 03, we’re thrilled to welcome Ani Phoebe to the booth. The first time we met with Ani was on the dance floor five years ago at festival in Bahia, Brazil. But in the recent years, Ani has quickly developed to one of the most interesting uprising selectors and DJ’s around. 

Ani Phoebe made her festival debut at Atlas Electronic (MR) and is a resident on The Lot Radio (NY), where she runs a monthly show called Parallel worlds, dedicated to diggers from different subcultures around the world. She is co-founder and resident of Bad Times Disco (HK), an online record store, party, and radio show in Hong Kong. But above all, she is a feminist journalist, reporting on social movements and grassroots feminist activism in different contexts.

Born in New York City from a Chinese background, she arrived to Hong Kong on a DJ tour and somehow decided to stay. She draws on her multi-cultural and multi-lingual background in her sets, especially influenced by early eclectic styles of production and artists. Drawing from cosmic, breaks, old school hip-hop, balearic, and wavy cues, she also leans towards the weird and oddball side of dance and electronic music. 

There is no need trying to label this one. In this mix you’re in for a real journey, from the slow to the trancey, the simple to the complicated, a full range of emotions. The stranger, softer, more melancholic or acidic side of dance music. Is it a daytime or nighttime mix? Well, you decide!

Globetrotters, time travelers, fun seekers, vinyl diggers, dance lovers… Many are the types of beings that thrive in this sonic culture of ours, finding shelter and happiness in this sensorial and emotional universe fostered by musical communion. And the creatures therein are more than just characters, they comprise the fauna and flora of these aural environments in which we dwell and revel, sustaining it with both their projects and their passion. Take the magnificent French trio known as Bayetë for example, an autonomous ecosystem of discovery and debauchery that strives to create the perfect conditions for our enjoyment of the treasures they find in their excursions across the world. A noble purpose that is so powerful that it does not solely rely on the collective's togetherness to exist, each of its members carry that same seminal drive in everything they do individually. Something we can perfectly perceive in this episode of Gop Cast where Simon, one of its members who recently relocated to São Paulo, manages to encapsulate the eclectic excellence of their musical abundance in a stellar mix of moods, grooves and everything in between.

Right when you thought the 80's had been mostly dug out, the "Night City Life" compilation hits the shelves. 
Ever since we heard his compilation for Spacetalk we were blown away: one of the best curations of early MIDI dancefloor/radio oriented productions we'd heard in a while. Truly refreshing to the human ear, not to mention the heavy research behind it. As such, we've wanted to book Ilan ever since but then COVID happened. Still a wet dream to see him do his thing live but for now here's this amazing bit of aural goodness to get you in the right mindset. 

Ilan is a London-based record collector. He can often be found posting the artwork of 80s vinyl from his collection on Instagram; a patchwork of nostalgia from musical days gone by.

BOA VIDA always means the sounds of 80's to me so this mix is a big nod to beautiful sounds and story telling of the 80's with a hint of early 90s too. 

BOA VIDA translates to GOOD life and thats exactly what I've found in Lisboa, moving here was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my whole life . A city I really love and big thank you to all the Portuguese who have looked after me and welcomed me and not made fun of my awful butchering of the language xx
