Piff Records pulls a petal from it’s 004 with Subjoi, recruiting @adam0emil - who featured on the track Paradise back in September - and @slimhustlaxxx who go twos on the new EP, “Travellers”.

Emil’s side features A1’s “Genuine”, driven by auto-tuned contemporary style vocals that ice all over the melancholy synth work, giving way to “Hovedspring” which presents itself as liquid drum and bass at house tempo - intricate drum programming and trance palet of ambient sounds, well padded throughout.

Slim Hustla takes over the B side, complimenting the ethereal sounds of Emil, first with “Newfound Love” - no less than a synth work out - dripping with arpeggiated notes that open up to their fullest, bouncing between stabs and waves of atmosphere electronics. “We Forget that the Water Cycle and the Life Cycle Are One” takes the beat format of electro, mobilized by acoustic drum sounds, setting the listener up for a full-blown acid hardcore breakbeat closer on “Midnight in Copenhagen”

To coincide with Rupture releasing Uranus, here is my dirty Uranus that I could never quite make hit the mark to be in the Planets series. See also my track 'Venus' on my Dope Plates EP.
This one I thought was clever, I used sounds from E.T Boogie by Extra Ts and a vocal sample from ET. Also I used the Amen and Funky Nassau (or is it Gordon's War?) together with the tail of the horns on the kicks to kind of mirror each other.

London-based producer Otik releases his first album 'Cosmosis' on Martyn's label 3024. The 11-track LP signifies the fourth album on the imprint across its ten-year tenure, showcasing a more introspective side to Otik's musical output.

The album leans into delicate melodies, hazy atmospheres and lush analogue sounds, often evoking blissed-out feels and ripples of brilliant colour. Produced three years ago during lockdown, 'Cosmosis' comes after a period of spiritual struggles, where Otik questioned his faith, religious beliefs, and the concepts of right and wrong. While the pandemic allowed ample time for reflection, Otik translated these thoughts into music from his Peckham-based studio, later finding a home on 3024's evolving discography.

Following Otik's EP 'Soulo' in 2021, 'Cosmosis' marks the second release from the Bristol-born DJ and producer on 3024. This time, his sound stems from a broader palette, touching on slower, aerated ambient notes through to rugged D'n'B, displaying the far-reaching breadth, vision and maturity of Otik's aesthetic.

Keen to release a body of work that explores the journey of enlightenment and the struggles to get there, Otik drew inspiration from the luminary filmmaker Terrence Malick and how Malick portrayed ideas and philosophies in films like The Tree of Life and Voyage of Time. As a result, the record conveys a compelling narrative of rebirth, told through exquisite sound design and a push-pull pace that oscillates across the album.

The lead single 'Cosmosis' binds astral breakbeats with a star-lined melody stitched against a spacious backdrop. Sparse, celestial vocals punctuate the soundscape and add a spiritual feel, culminating in a dazzling trip at just over five minutes.

Started in 2020, the Mentoring Program run by label owner Martyn has become a worldwide online and IRL community of artists sharing resources, ideas and inspiration. This compilation showcases the wide range of fresh and amazing music that is continuously surfacing from the program, unbound by strict genre definitions.

Besides a collection of new music, Undercurrents is also a consideration of what a record label can be in 2024. The illusive Nelson of the East reappears with his forthcoming EP Phase Alternating Lines – a first class two-tracker + FANTASTIC MAN remix 

The Swiss-born, Milanese artist released his first EP Night Frames just last year, making a strong entrance on Tartelet Records. This time around, N.O.T.E explores 80s electro boogie with ‘Phase Alternating Lines’ on the A side, and delivers his very own take on obscure tribal house with “Burning Palm” on the B side.

If you’re into the 80s, Beverly Hills Cop, or just sad that you missed out on Studio 54, you’re going to love EP opener, “Phase Alternating Lines”. It’s got it all: hot drum programming, an electro boogie bassline and a cheeky Italo-style melody that sticks.

“Burning Palm” takes us into tribal-meets-afro-house territory, utilizing percussion, synth marimba and entrancing melodies – all held together in a tight, driving groove. This track is exotic at its root and perfect for any late night outdoor activity. 

FANTASTIC MAN of Superconscious Records fame delivers an outstanding remix, taking “Burning Palm” deeper into obscure tribal territory with his ‘Awakening Dub’, where repetitive rhythms, off-kilter bass and mystic sounds merge for that hypnotic afterhours vibe (digital only).

This is a limited-edition release of 300 copies, written and produced by N.O.T.E, arranged by N.O.T.E in close collaboration with Tartelet Records’ label head Dirk 81 and mixed at Panalama Studios in Copenhagen on the Neve 5088 Shelford console for good measure.

One of the UK's most influential dubstep duos, Horsepower Productions, shows off their stylistic dexterity with a heady two-tracker titled 'Stranger/TP' - set to land on August 9 via  Sneaker Social Club. 

Ahead of the release, the duo has handed over its a-side to Mixmag for a premiere. Locked into their "ruff n' tuff rave mode,"  'Stranger' is a low-end excursion of the highest order with mindful breaks, muzzy pads and vintage Horsepower Production sampling arrangements.
