In recent years, the term “tech-house” has taken on a whole new direction that has swayed some considerable distance from its origins. One of the early protagonists of this much-misunderstood sub-genre is Asad Rzvi aka Silverlining. His nineties deep, groovey garage tinged house is nothing short of seminal and appearing first on OG labels such as Wiggle and Wrong, Asad set a template for what would become such a huge sound of current times. Trommel.154 – Silverlining

Last week's Ode to Nat at Wiggle was a moment of pure and electric bliss that wholesomely reanimated the original spirit of Wiggle as it did the ethos of its dear, late co-founders Nathan and Lou. Their contagious grins could be felt filling what remaining space was left between the dancers. I arrived exhausted after an 11-hour door-to-door journey from Romania, but the energy from all the faces, familiar and new, quickly swept all that away. Unsurprisingly, Fabian and Josh clearly have it in their blood to pick up the baton from their parents under the guidance of Terry. Everyone who I heard played impeccable sets, but I'm just gutted I didn't get to catch the boys with Harvey under their 3 minds alias earlier on, but I heard it was on point as ever. Wiggle is back, and long may it thrive! Oi oi!

Silverlining @ Wiggle | An Ode to Nat (July '23)

This week on the podcast, a mix from friend of the festival and celebrated Cartulis resident Junki Inoue. Born in Tokyo but living in London since 2012, Junki's been an avid record collector from an early-age. Few have bags as deep, something shown by this mix, which happens to be an hour section of his set from Dimensions 2022. It's testament to the timeless sound he's cultivated that you'd never tell.

After a stint working in NY as a DJ, booker, and music buyer, he went on a globetrotting journey, working on his most recent projects including a record label 'Jigit' and a stellar B2B tag team with O.BEE. Together they are storming the scene and established themselves as one of the most sought-after DJ acts around.

“I recorded this mix at home using just a pair of Technics and a Mastersounds mixer. For this one, I wanted to explore the darker side of my sound while trying to keep it emotive. It moves around through breakbeat house, deep techno, early progressive, acid, detroit and electro; all of which have inspired me since the beginning and I still love playing today. 

I’ll most likely be playing along these lines on the 12th. Room 1 is always a joy to play in, and I’m beyond excited to test out new system upgrade!”
