Landlady

NY musician Adam Shatz has played with the likes of Vampire Weekend and Man Man, and his new band Landlady have a big sound not dissimilar to TV On The Radio.

St Paul & The Broken Bones

Signed to the label set up by Alabama Shakes and Civil Wars, this is, unsurprisingly a love letter to vintage soul roots, and sounds absolutely fantastic.

Crash

Signed to Ed Sharpe's record label, Crash has a similarly ramshackle sound that harks back  to soul times of yore. But what a voice, and he looks like he knows how to take charge of a crowd and give them quite a night.

Salt Cathedral

New Brooklyn band skating similar ground to Dirty Projector, with warm arty soundtracky moments and grand, soaring vocals, and it's a great mix.

Acrobat

London boutique label Parlour has just unveiled Acrobat whose angular pop is retro but sounding very fine indeed.

Fist City

Canadian indie-punks whose brilliant debut album is now being re-released in the UK by the mighty Transgressive Records, the home of Foals.

Roman Remains

Duke Spirit were one of the great lost bands of the last decade and two of the band are now back as Roman Remains - taking the bluesy stomp of their former band and adding an electronic grit.

Lily Mckenzie

Lot of piano-led female singer-songwriters at the moment but Lily McKenzie has something really stand-out, and when working with the unique oration of Giggs, it's a great sound.

Dauwd

London producer whose spacey electronic minimal sound capes will resonate with any fans of Nathan Fake, Four Tet, The Field or Luke Abbott. Now signed to the mighty Kompakt records.

Isaiah Rasha

Signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, the label looking after the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Schoolboy Q, Isaiah is playing a host of SXSW shows and looks the next rapper to generate plenty of heat.

Skinny Love by Bon Iver, and the whole For Emma Forever Ago album come to think of it, is absolutely spectacular.

Some people don't take well to it being remixed, but this particular track was one of the the most therapeutic remixes/bootlegs I've had the pleasure of making.

I decided to sit down and make some music that would reflect a bit more of a calm side to me. I was listening to the original track, threw it in my DAW and threw down some crushy destroyed drums under it to get a feel for where to start, and then it just flowed from that point on.

It's not exactly what you'd expect, which has really become what I like doing - surprises.

This was another marathon production binge, which seems to be how I work best.
