Introducing Higher Hopes, a brand-new label from DC Salas.
A deeply personal project for the Biologic Records co-boss, Higher Hopes is inspired by the deep immersive, unconventional and left-leaning underground music he loves to play in clubs.
Music like Krokakai’s. An emergent Glaswegian producer with a penchant for hardware – largely using an MPC2000XL, SH09, MS20 Mini, TT-303, Roland Alpha Juno and other trusted tools – he’s already turned heads on labels such as Invisible Inc and PowerStation Records. Right here he lays down the label’s parameters with four unique, far-reaching escapades.
Our pick here falls on ‘The Silk Road’ which picks up the eastern trail and sweeps us deep into the desert on a flying acid carpet.
Music to dance to, music to dream to, music for brighter times. Higher Hopes is vinyl-focused and distributed by Brussels record store Crevette Records. More transmissions will follow very soon.

Moving Still is back with three Egyptian bangers for a freebie EP called Ouddy Bangers Vol.1. It follows on from his infectious disco floor-filler Sidi Mansour (Moving Still Edit), which took the festival circuit by storm, and his italo-esque edit of Egyptian pop star Azza Kamal's 'Maadna Bkra' in collaboration with Dutch producer Tjade. Both edits reached #1 in Rush Hour's best sellers chart and played out across the world with support from Palms Trax, Hunee, Skatebård, David Vunk, CC:DISCO!, Esa Williams and Nabihah Iqbal.

The A side is a love letter to Hamid El Shaeri, king of Westernised synth-pop in Egypt. A1 features Cheb Arab who was the protege of Hamid, sadly making only one album before dying in mysterious circumstances. “Lo Kan”, from the album of the same name, tells the story of love, patience and passion. The track features Moving Still’s signature arpeggiated bassline and pitched down vocals to add depth to the passionate lyrics. The resulting edit is dancefloor ready, whilst still retaining the emotion of the original. Meanwhile the A2 is the last track from the first album of Magdy El Shaeri, composed by his older brother Hamid. Western pop with a Middle Eastern twist, the Arabic maqam trills are at home with the funky guitar and synth sounds. The saturated TR707 gives the track a grittier feel, and a reverb-heavy Roland JX3P motif is carried through the song.


The B side is Egyptian pop royalty Simone, produced by one half of Germany’s Modern Talking, Dieter Bohlen. The lyrics reflecting on life are unusually emotive for an Italo disco-esque banger, and these act as inspiration for the recreation of the song. The dialogue between the 303 and ARP bass provides the track with a distorted core, and the mournful lead in the outro is recreated and repeated to amplify the melancholy of the track. This infectious upgrade is sure to be in your ears for long after the last note ends.

“The idea of the edits is that they are my favourite Egyptian artists and the songs are really personal to me. I always imagined these musicians to have worked together at some point because of their shared connection to Hamid El Shaeri and possibly gone out together for a bit of argila (shisha) and some vino.


I wanted to share these tracks with everyone for free as a thank you for the enduring support I have received over the last number of years. I hope it gives you the same HI-NRG and joy it gave me while editing them!”


Moving Still has collaborated with two Lebanese artists on the artwork for this EP release. The illustration for the EP has been created by Tracy Chahwan and will be available to buy with profits going to charity to benefit Lebanon. The 40 x 40 Giclée print on cotton rag paper will be packaged and distributed in partnership with Hen’s Teeth, a creative studio in Dublin, Ireland.

Flat Earthers seem to have been making a comeback with the advent of the internet peaking in the mid 1990s. While most people dropped this belief in the 1300s it has seen a resurgence, with a rise in membership.
These are clearly people who do not 'Believe in Rock.' Cannibal Ink are at the heart of this EP from Days of Being Wild, however, everyone's favourite Italian American Luca Venezia AKA Curses gets in on the act... as if that was not enough, Disco Halal and Multi Culti signed double act Simple Symmetry have his the remix duties, which turn a rockabilly original into a high octane disco classic which quite possibly feels more love than Moroder and Summer.
What was a guitar from the original becomes a droney timestretched blanket coated in toms and yet more guitar and a little bit more guitar thrown in for good measure. 
Days of Being Wild has been around for a number of years now and has been played by the likes of Chloe, Daniel Avery, Red Axes, Damian Lazarus and countless other top DJs. With Cannibal Ink splitting to go their separate ways, this label is the perfect place to bow out, with the perfect people to help them in Luca, Sasha and Sergey.

Out early June on Kalahari Oyster Cult

Munich. 1994. A group buck current trends with a ground-breaking release. Tikitaka by Tamburá left aside the techno of the time to focus on a the lesser known styles of afrobeat and tribal music. The result was three tracks that sail and soar on a primal energy, three works that whisk listeners away to exotic lands of wooden wind instruments, ritualistic vocals and, even, bag pipe majesty. For twenty five years this record has been an unattainable mystery, until now that is. Kalahari Oyster Cult have lovingly restored all three of the trailblazing original tracks alongside two very special remixes. Melbourne’s Tornado Wallace adds new layers of intensity as he cuts and reshapes melodies and beats to set any floor alight with this visionary remake. Dazion offers a very different interpretation. Focusing on vocals, this new talent accentuates the shamanic-like chants of Tikitaka, using them as a base from which throbbing synth lines grow as new depths are explored. An EP every bit as daring in 2019 as it was in 1994.

Kolago Kult is an irregular party and DJ/VJ/production collective based in London. Formerly known as Tales of Voodoo, they transcend musical genres and serve up anything from disco to afrobeat to psyched-out weirdness. First up on this latest EP is the freaky ‘Sangoma’ which sets the mood for the ceremony with tribal drums and ancient chants. It’s a wobbly dub cut that is expertly loose and limb-jangling. In ‘Curse go Back’ an old vocal sample takes us on a journey amongst steel drums and marimbas, this one is a real trip deep into the jungle on a pounding beat embellished with exotic FX. On remix duties, two old Calypso members are brought back to spice things up. Firstly, TYU takes ‘Sangoma’ straight into a twisted territory with a superbly entrancing reworking. Colossio then brings a darker and hypnotic mood to ‘Curse go Back’ to finalise the ceremony. This latest transmission from Kolago Kult is a neo-ritualistic EP that is sure to cast a fine spell on all who hear it.

After only one year of existence, "From disco to disko" announces a fifth release that’s a bit special. It now comes to LE DISKO, the band at the head of the Corsican label, to come out of clandestinity today.

BV002 offers two radically electronic tracks, sound prototypes shaped for the dancefloor: "La Noche", a hypnotic ode to the night, bubbles. "Rotondo", stratospheric icy ascent, shivers. An EP made to be played on big systems, an EP made to be noticed in the middle of a set.
