We are super happy to welcome Sim Fossil (@simfossil)in our podcast series, especially with him releasing his first EP on the label.
Sim Fossil aka Fedor Velyaminov is a DJ, record collector and producer currently based in Paris.
Born in Moscow in 1990, Fedor has always been fascinated by electronic music and started
producing at the age of 13, firstly inspired by famous house and downtempo artists as King Kooba.

Since then, he released several EPs under the alias Cossway on labels such as hedZup, Hatch
Rec, Whyostro, Inter Records, Deepology and many others.
Now living in Paris, where he works as a graphic designer, he has found inspiration in the rich
cultural heritage of the city leading him to launch his new project as Sim Fossil. With his new
moniker, he’s now focusing on more underground fields, experimenting in genres as newbeat,
downtempo, synthpop or balearic ballads.

“The theme of this mix is a certain new age sound and flavor from 80s recordings. I traced this sound through the work of many Japanese artists (hence the Shibas on the cover) and I would say this became the backbone of the mix: music by the legendary Haruomi Hosono, Yuji Toriyama and many more. The vibe is unique and experimental, a new age-y, jazz-rock-y type of deal. I’ve been quite inspired for a long time by the character and creativity of this era; something about the guitar and instrumentation gives it that special touch. Personally, as a producer, I’m a big fan of Yamaha instruments, in particular the DX7, which I’ve come to associate with this time in music. Though Japanese artists are the central thread, I’ve made a kind of fusion of many different things that to me capture this special flavor.”

Seoul-based collector and DJ of various genres from around the world. His 8,90s Balearic, Boogie, House mixes have been played over the years on Radio TNP(NL), Operator Radio(NL), Sphere Radio(GE), Amok Radio(LU), Rocket Radio(IT), EHFM(UK), Pinata Radio(FR) and Bangkok Community Radio(TH) etc…

Released under his alter-ego, TUCAN DISCOS, the edit series made his name known to DJs and musicians throughout Europe, South America, the United States, and Southeast Asia. (A compilation album containing his edit tracks was released by Brazilian label Bongo Synth in September 2022.)

As a DJ, he has played alongside Folamour, Beesmunt Soundsystem, and Hidden Spheres in Seoul, and he drew attention in the local scene for his successful party under the name Tucan Discos by directly booking Raphael Top Secret. 

Over the past few years, he has served as Korean Correspondent/Editor working with Discogs and promoted the local underground music scene to the record community of around the world through Discogs

Mix of the Week #465: DJ BIRCH - With Us

Music is the vehicle for Nathan Dawidowicz to tell a story. But not just their story... they're inviting you to fashion your own narrative; to draw your own conclusion.

Nathan's personal tale has been a vibrant one. The son of a Polish-Lithuanian mother and Cameroonian father, they moved to Jerusalem at the age of six from their birthplace of Milan. Whilst growing up in a Jewish ultra-orthadox community, they dreamed of moving away to become a musician and fashion designer, which became a reality when they moved back to Italy and broke the constraints of the religious environment they'd been raised in. 

Fashion became their academic pursuit but music was ever-present, a sonic remedy that brought them life. It had been a constant, from their childhood years spent playing piano to the influence of their father who spent time as a DJ during the 80s and 90s in Milan. Soon enough sound became a way of exploring the art of story-telling and this journey took them to their now home of Berlin. 

Here they connected with Luspoderosa, a label based between Zurich and Berlin that isn't afraid to colour outside the lines. This platform would become the home for Nathan's debut solo album Sanctuary of Ideas - a deeply personal, psychedelic and cosmic dive into their memories, journey, reflections and heritage.

Off the back of the release we invited Nathan to open up their sonic world to us even more with a mix of hypnotic and atmospheric new wave, Italo, acid and deep rhythmic excursions. Don your pyjamas and your fluffy slippers and sink into it...
