The Oblivious Optimist (V2)

This is the title track from a CD I recorded and didn't release.
The song was written around 2000, and recorded using very basic digital equipment in 2002.
By today's standards I would call the recording a demo, and with the use of my computer I have expanded the original sound - which was a purely 'live' take, just me, my guitar and the song.

I hope you enjoy this.

Big nod in here to my childhood friend Andy Unstead. Hope he can spot the lines that refer to hours of fun just around the corner from our respective homes.

Movin' On (2013)

The recording session for this track was completed in one afternoon, consisting of 2 guitars and a tambourine.

I passed the stems onto Van Gabriel with the view that he would perfect a version for a new LP I have in mind. His mix is excellent, and when we release it you will be able to hear the difference to this mix which I completed.

I was contacted by Marc Elusse (Nemorospo) who had taken Gab's version and added some Cure/Police like guitars onto it. It prompted me to finish my version, so that you can hear how I imagined it, before hearing Gabriel's version. Believe me, it could take a whole new direction.

The essence is to convey a sense of 'time' through music... the sensations of waiting, acting and reflecting.. 

I welcome feedback and contact on many items in this track, the crescendo firstly, as the track builds and grows. The subject matter, and also the panning and control of the mix. If you think you could suggest interesting changes then please do.

I am wondering if playing this live will bring more out of the 'sensations' I wished to convey, and whether to use clocks to begin and end the piece. Or would that be too Pink Floyd?

Joe Strummer has influenced my thinking and my values across many decades of my life.
The man, the music, the ideology of 'do it yourself'.

He is a modern icon in a world of plastic and dayglow Barbie dolls and Beckham aftershave.

This song is from his second solo release with the multi-talented Mescaleroes. If you look them up on youtube you will see a version of this on the Letterman show... 

A tribute therefore to one of the icons that lead me to 'do it myself' and ignore the conventions and get on and 'make some noise'...

The version is roughly mixed with some reverb on the backing vocal. Other than that it is very rough because my small daughter was about as you will hear throughout the song,,,,

A cover of the Bob Dylan Classic 'Knockin' On Heavens Door'.

I have always had affection for this song. I have played it on street corners busking, I have played it in quieter moments at home. I have often thought about recording a version, and as I have had some time on my hands I asked Gabriel Vanore if he would like to produce. 

Here is one of the 3 drafts he gave me. Possibly the most accessible version. Thank you Gab.
