For our thirteenth release we introduce a new artist to the family: P.E.O. Originally from France, this globetrotter has started building a name for himself in Montreal, Canada, and now Brussels, as he dives deeper into the electronic scene. His warm and enticing sound caught our attention and resulted in the Insane About It EP. A step out of our comfort zone at Heroic, going deeper than we ever have before. Recorded in the Red Bull Studios Amsterdam.

Full of guitars, deep bass and piano keys, the track drives you on a mesmerizing journey to sunsets and reminiscence. One for easy listening, for lovers, or for the afterparty. P.O.G! delivers a warm and uplifting house banger, with vocals throughout and the catchiest hook. Then we go one deeper with Jack Zwarts, with driving deep house at it’s finest - made for the dance floors. Nicolas Haelg is set on conquering hearts with a hugely soulful sax and vocal heavy take, which climax brings the release to the perfect end. Insane About It.

Eva Be has been a key figure on the development of Berlin underground club culture, going back to the 90s and her involvement with the Sonar Kollektiv crew that included the likes of Dixon, Ame and Jazzanova, to name a few. A highly talented producer and DJ, this EP on Poker Flat Wax showcases her skillful mastery of house music.

'Delight' kicks things off on the A side, a low slung groove with Chicago-esque percussion that pops out of the speakers. Some of Eva’s love for dub and reggae is also present - vocals and chord stabs echo and shimmer across the track.

'Breathe' is a little more  floor focussed - a hard knocking kick starts this off and the track develops into one of those deep, emotional and driving tracks that get dance floors into a serious states of ecstasy.

Flip the wax and 'Pills' is the third offering for this release - precise-yet-wonky drums, breakbeats, deep pads and synth lines that gel together into a perfect, hedonistic whole.

Sweden’s favourite house label Local Talk return with a new LP compiled by one of the imprints most beloved artists Crackazat, and he has been given special permission remix and rework a selection of label's back catalogue for their edit's series.

Previous artists who have compiled a reworks album for the series include HNNY, Jacques Renault plus Kyodai, and this is perhaps one of the best yet.

Ben Jacobs better known to music fans as Crackazat, is a young talent originally from Bristol in the UK. Early in his career he was the official warm up act for Floating Points and he shares a similar sound fusing upbeat jazzy chords with house shuffling percussion.

Local Talk have become synonymous with breaking new talent such as HNNY that later goes onto achieve big things, and Crackazat is one such artist who has used the label as a spring board to kick start an accomplished career.

Crackazat has now featured tracks and remixes on other labels including Josh Wink's Ovum, Joey Negro's Z Records and Derrick Carter’s Classic. Early in his career he also released on the infamous Future Boogie, and a number of his Local Talk tracks have been licenced to prestigious compilations compiled by brands like Defected.

Featuring everyone from Terrence Parker to Soulphiction, the Local Talk back catalogue has original music from many of house music’s greatest artists who sit alongside fresh talent such as Jaxx Madicine and Marcel Lune.

Choosing tracks that he either loves of feels he can improve with a bit of careful editing, Crackazat has spent time hand picking a selection of tracks that showcase the Local Talk back catalogue in all its dazzling glory.

For those already familiar with some of the original versions on this release, it’s a fantastic chance to rediscover a classic in a revised format, and for those new to the label prepare to hear some of the best house music out there with strong influences from other genres such as jazz, funk and soul.

PREMIERE: Lay Far - Submerging (Crackazat Rework) [Local Talk]

For her Power Plant imprint's first release in the past 17 months, Swedish DJ-producer La Fleur starts off 2019 with her outstanding 'Aphelion' EP - a two-track release filled with conviction and spirit.

Ahead of its release, La Fleur has handed the EP's title-track over to Mixmag for a premiere. Explaining the thought process behind her latest creation, she tells us: “Aphelion is the point in the orbit when the planet is the farthest from the sun, so I wanted to give this an otherworldly vibe with the chords and the melody loop.”

Aphelion EP drops on March 15 via Power Plant.

Jonny White’s acclaimed Art Department alias continues to serve up essential house music with a new package featuring a standout original as well as remixes from Damian Lazarus, Clive Henry and Nitin & Down 2 feat. Lorenzo Dada.

Art Department continued to light up the world’s best clubs and festivals throughout 2018 and into 2019. He also served up vinyl chart topping EPs on No.19 and Kerri Chandler’s Kaoz Theory that showed his style is constantly evolving, always connecting the dots between the past, present and future, finding fresh new ground in the house sphere. This new track comes as a fantastic live version with a typically on- point selection of remixes.

The lead single, ‘Normalizm,’ is a brilliantly elastic piece of house music, with infectious and busy drums setting a playful mood. Fat synths warp around the beats and the whole thing has a restlessness to it that cannot fail to make you move. Scene mainstay and Crosstown Rebels’s driving creative force Damian Lazarus steps up with a remix that fantastically reworks the track into eight darkly involving minutes of synth laden intensity. The drums twist and turn, and the pads bring real late night emotion to the groove.

Circoloco resident and producer of some of house music’s chunkiest sounds Clive Henry then steps up. His well-constructed remix flips the track into something deep, liquid and stripped back. It’s a fluid groove for intimate after parties that really gets under your skin.

Last of all, label co-owner Nitin joins forces with the enigmatic Down 2 for a remix that features keys from classically trained pianist, and respected producer in his own right, Lorenzo Dada. Recorded at Zee’s infamous studio facility in Toronto, this perfect final piece of the puzzle is beautifully spaced out and delicate. The keys are tender and emotive and the rolling drums get you lost in a cinematic and widescreen reverie.

This is a wonderfully varied package that covers plenty of musical ground, and marks another high point from the always on point Art Department and No.19 Music.

Art Department - Normalizm (Damian Lazarus Re-Shape)

Occasionally the stars align to create something truly special. Well, without beating around the bush, that’s what we’ve got for you here. Not only a classic Legowelt hymn that’s ripe for a revisit but three quality remixers (Tuff City Kids, Catz 'N Dogz and Younger Rebinds aka Benny Rodrigues) turning in scandalously good remixes for Cocoon Recordings. Yes, we’re spoiling you...but you’re worth it!

Disco Rout first surfaced in 2002. The electro revival that had ushered in the new millennium was in full swing and this was to prove a seminal tune, being voted track of the year by Groove magazine. As if to prove a point the bass line still grabs you the moment it drops, while the laser-guided melodies feel as relevant today as they ever did. Fusing the past with a neon future, Legowelt’s complex interwoven elements fit like a glove and the clarity of the mix makes everything seem effortless. Maybe that‘s why it’s such a fascinating track to revisit, having already been remixed over the years by the likes of Deetron, Johannes Heil and Freeform Five.

Anyway, this current crop of remixes are equally top notch starting with Tuff City Kids who do what they do best, serving up an organic, conga driven workout complete with percolating synthetic percussion, cut up vocals and silky smooth choral pads. Warping and flanging the original riffs into an infectious, state-of-the-art revamp, they stay true to the retro vibe with added emphasis on the vocal hook for a more pronounced breakdown that briefly trips out before regrouping and taking flight once more. 

Following hot on their heels is a screamer from Catz ’N Dogz who drop the tempo slightly, layering a metallic cowbell motif over a tough, robotic disco groove that adds extra swagger to the bass line. The original parts gradually spiral into view, cranking up the pressure till we hit a solid state of euphoria that in turn, disintegrates into freaky alien chatter. There’s no let up though, as squawking synths lock on to the rhythm and everything evolves into a full-on percussive outro.

So far, so fantastic. You would think there’s nowhere left to go after being blasted into outer space a couple of times already but we’re not done yet. Last but not least, Dutch master Benny Rodrigues aka ROD steps up under his Younger Rebinds alias with even more intensity than demonstrated on last year’s ‘Sound of Benny EP’ on Running Back. Picking apart the original with almost forensic attention to detail, he gives new life to each individual strand with an exhilarating mix that seems destined to leave its mark on dance floors around the globe throughout the summer and beyond. The second of his two remixes is included here, both having featured on a much sought after Cocoon Recordings limited edition white label. Remix two compliments the precision of the first with a more freestyle approach that’s in one hell of a rush to get going. The bass line rips through the mix, hihats scurry toward the cavernous, arpeggiated breakdown and we’re drenched in reverb as the synths dovetail dangerously, all the while paying homage to the hi-octane energy of the original. Rodriguez effortlessly toys with the crowd, frying the synapses and gorging on serotonin, as the mix motors relentlessly to its conclusion.

The Disco Rout remix EP is a shameless riot of sound that succeeds in doing something very special - by staying true to Legowelt’s vision, the artists involved not only demonstrate their notable skills as remixers but reaffirm the quality of a classic and timeless piece of music.

Fusing pre-Columbian musical instruments of Ecuador, he was heavily influenced by his father and uncle who taught him to play the bongos and congas and were both DJs themselves. Since travelling to Europe, he has fused these sounds together and now has a fresh Latin tinged sound that is a mix of Andean native music and House. ‘Latino’ kicks off the EP; a crisp and energetic cut featuring suspenseful drum rolls, dispersed vocal cuts and rolling percussion. B-side ‘Wirakchuro’ doesn’t disappoint either, driving steady hi-hats over the captivating vocals of Tamya Moran and bouncing drums with a low stuttering bassline
