We spilled the box across the floor,
A thousand pieces, maybe more,
All shapes and colors, wild and free,
A mess that somehow looked like me.

You laughed and said, “Where do we start?”
I said, “The edges,  like the heart.”
We lined the corners, one by one,
And watched the picture just begin to come.

At first it felt like nothing fit,
The wrong piece here, the wrong piece lit,
But little by little, through the doubt,
We learned what love was all about.

Piece by piece, we built our sky,
From scattered hopes to reasons why,
Every shape that didn’t seem to belong,
Found its place where it’s been all along.
And when the colors finally met,
The picture we made, I won’t forget,
You and I,  the masterpiece,
And together we placed the final piece.

Some days we forced what wouldn’t go,
Some nights we stopped and took it slow,
The table cluttered, hands unsure,
But love was patient, love was pure.
You’d find a piece I’d thrown aside,
I’d find your smile I used to hide,
And suddenly the chaos made
A perfect sense that never fades.

It’s not about the time it takes,
It’s how the cracks become the shapes,
How every piece we thought was wrong,
Was just waiting for where it belonged.

You and I,  the masterpiece,
Love complete, the final piece.

So if we ever fall apart,
We’ll find each fragment of our heart,
And build again  as love decrees,
Until we place… the final piece.
