The longtime Perlon affiliate goes for big basslines and big grooves. 

It's 1996, and a young Fumiya Tanaka is shelling out hefty yet minimal percussive techno at Club Rockets in Osaka to an audience enraptured. Released as Mix-Up, the 90-minute recording captures Tanaka sounding rather like Jeff Mills or Surgeon. It's far cry from the sound he's known for today.

Fumiya Tanaka's creative arc has seen him move away from these thunderous sounds to warmer shades of house and minimal. Since 2016, he's found a home on the inimitable German minimal label, crafting out a distinctive sound within the labels roster with an affection for tumbling basslines and spooky atmospheres. 

From 1996 to 2023, Tanaka ran a party series in Tokyo, Osaka and Berlin called "Chaos," which encapsulates the ethos of freedom Tanaka brings to a party. "When you hear music you've never heard before and encounter unknown territory, you will be so happy and totally absorbed," he told us back in 2019. "I want to keep that feeling."

RA.964 achieves exactly that. Nearly three decades removed from his burst onto the scene, and after a good few years of asking, Tanaka's RA Podcast captures him in full house mode. Recorded at a Slapfunk party in Manchester, the Perlon maestro keeps the vibe funked-up, chunky and warm, punctuated by the occasional big breakdown and the odd lick of garage rudeness. No tracklist for now—but as Tanaka knows well, half the fun lies in the mystery.

A nomad "fiestero" born and raised in Torino, italian centre point for electronic music in the 90s and 00s. Clubbing since he was 17 years old , enjoying minimal and techno international artists playing in Turin, experiencing the first editions of Movement and Club2Club, Savana Potente and Vanity, besides his favourite one: Krakatoa.

First a dancer, then a clubber, finally a DJ, all around the world. The nomad life started when he moved to Ibiza in 2010, since then his soul discovered new ad more amplified ways to do "fiesta"; another essetial experiece was the Estonia year where he studied the philosophy of communication and where he first learnt to use CDjs. 

After the bachelor degree, he started to live, work and travel around the world, always attending the best clubs looking for those right frequencies, and evetually shaping his style based on the sounds and culture of  Ibiza, Torino, Sydney, Melbourne, London, Rotterdam, Tenerife, Barcelona.


The need for selecting music started in 2010 during the very first season in Ibiza. Whatever he decide to play, probably will be based or influenced by this continuously research of those deep, powerful, magic rhythms discovered on that special island. 
He was lucky enough to see, hear, dance, share and learn the last glimpses of what it was Ibiza, which is pure inner freedom. 
You need to experience it in roder to understand.

From that point on, there was no return. 

Now he plays the music selected while living around the world for almost 15 years, every time trying to create new dimensions and infinite loops that reminds us that inner freedom everyone has inside.
