August 2023 Mixtape

A RE:CONSTRUCTED set is a *long* way removed from a standard DJ set. Here's how it works.

Simon takes hundreds of tracks from his huge library, painstakingly deconstructs them (using Ai if needed to separate elements from the original tracks), and then pieces everything back together to create a hugely emotive and immersive musical story.

He uses Ableton Live and multiple controllers to trigger up to 16 individual channels of audio at any one time during the performance, and also performs live keyboard overdubs. The end result is a hugely addictive, compulsive and compelling blend of music that's often new, often familiar but always utterly unique.

This is storytelling on a giant canvas, and in 2024 we will be adding visuals and further live instrumentation to these RE:CONSTRUCTED sets.

Opening the new year in the proper funky way here at Breakbeat Paradise Recordings, we proudly present a new collaboration release between&nbsp;Pecoe and BoydexIt's not the first time the duo finds common ground producing tunes in collaboration, and their latest work together, "Have Faith EP" adds 4 new tracks to the collection now. The funk flows through tunes like "Bring The Heat" or "Go" having breezy funky guitar licks and vocal-samples in proper use. While the rest of the EP leans towards the disco edge of things with songs like "Disco Fever" or the title tune "Have Faith"; both of them featuring Sully Sax on live saxophone instrumentation.

Filled in for someone who missed their DJ slot at the Glitter Ranch Campout this past Fourth of July week and got to play poolside again at the lovely Camp Silver Spur property! 🙌

At this point the left tempo slider was kicking my tracks and/or going to the last cue point if I touched it while a track was playing, and I think the left deck kicked my first 3-4 tracks in the first 10-15min of me hopping on (thankfully on beat, so at least people didn't really notice... I think it must have gotten wet?). 

We also discovered that the main sound wasn't plugged in at the beginning of my set, likely when I turned down the monitors (and headphones) because I still have sensitive hearing. Thankfully my friends jumped in, and I was able to share some more music 😅❤️

I wanted to play the last track included here when I played poolside, but the DJ after me reminded me that I "wasn't even on the schedule" and declined my request. Anyway, happy to include another @avrosse banger at the end of this rework 💪

This is the beginning of a new series of mixes and live events I’m calling CHPTR – a space for storytelling through sound.

Each mix will explore a different emotional arc, unfolding like a narrative across genres, tempos, and textures. Some will be recorded live in the studio, others captured live at CHPTR events. They’re connected by a shared intention: to take you on a journey.

Each set is crafted to unfold like a narrative – rich in texture, emotional depth, and movement. Not just a collection of tunes, but a journey with intention behind every transition, shift, and silence.

CHPTR 001 is, in many ways, a psychedelic selection – not in the hippy sense, but in how it gently alters perception over time. It starts slow, ambient, and introspective, gradually evolving through hypnotic grooves, off-kilter house, breakbeats, and late-night techno. It’s cinematic, immersive, and designed to be experienced as a whole.

Featuring music by Mark Barrott, Jose Solano, Dizharmonia, LTJ, Josh Wink (Adana Twins Remix – Simon’s VIP Edit), Left/Right, BRONSON, and unreleased edits and reconstructions of my own.

Instantáneamente cuando escuché la versión original de Tanya Loca las vocales me transportaron a un lugar nostálgico y me imaginé que podían ser parte de un track formato pista. Justo venía buscando ocupar el espacio de cierre para el Live Set que vengo tocando durante 2025 y probé las vocales con una base Breakbeat y la composición general salió así rápido en 2 semanas. Me gusta mucho el resultado y lo que genera esta canción que ya de por sí tiene una carga emocional muy fuerte. Espero que lo disfruten :))
