For me some, of the most exciting and fresh sounding music has been with the breakbeat scene over the years. Playing to 40,000 people at the Exit Festival, headlining shows across Australia & New Zealand to big Festivals in the UK & Europe, USA & Canada. So many great artists have been a part of the Breaks scene ie. Freq Nasty, Plump DJ's, Stanton Warriors, Adam Freeland, Evil 9, DJ Icey, Deekline, Prodigy, Meat Katie, Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Rennie Pilgrem, Soul Of Man, Squarepusher, Pendulum, DJ Zinc & many more are all featured in this podcast. We’ve been trying to get a mix from this week’s guests for well over a year and now we finally have one. The are Olly, Ave and Seb. Together they form the Freerange DJs and we’re thrilled to have them in The Armory this week! Press play. Get down. 

Proudly hailing from a county that is so backward, most people's family trees look more like tumbleweeds. A thoroughbred trio of dedicated Cornish idiots have been quietly paving the musical way for their stalwart countryside kinsmen. Like the blind leading the blind the Freerange Djs have embarked on a chaotic adventure that is slowly leading to what must be one of the music industries most unorganised rises to fame on record. That said, their unorthodox methods have picked them up some noteworthy accolades along the way including 2 Mixmag ‘Tune Of The Month’s, releases on prestigious labels such as Skint Records and 470 real Twitter followers. The Freerange Djs have won lots of awards that are not really worth mentioning and narrowly missed out on some good ones too. With remix work for the mighty Stanton Warriors set for release imminently as well as a delightful summer festival season booked in including their favorites Glastonbury and Boomtown Fair, its looking like these modest idiots could be sailing the good ship Breakbeat at full speed towards some very prosperous rocks in the not too distant future……

The Martin Brothers 'Sunrise' DnB Yule Log Vol 2 (2016)

This mix was recorded in 2010 for the treasure trove which is promomixes.com. 
Promomixes 006 features my take on the early Belgian New Beat / EBM wave which hit Belgium between 1985 and .... well, depending on who you talk to it lasted maximum four or five years before it turned itself into a commercial, money-infested parody. But during those early years it was one of the most invigorating and creative moments in Belgium's musical nightlife history. The eclectic blend between 80ies New / Cold Wave, Electronic Body Music and fresh, homemade New Beat tunes was unique and happened only in Belgium. A strange country, indeed....

This mix was made with Antwerp's (in)famous Prestige club in mind. While I always found Prestige's music policy to be a bit on the safe side the place was important to me: it was the first real club I experienced from the inside. It definitely did awake something in me: a fascination for dance music, nightlife, and the intense hunger to be a part of it all.

The selection in this mix is made from a very personal perspective: my imaginary, perfect Prestige. Older (Belgian?) listeners will hear a lot of 'classics', newer listeners can go about and discover. Enjoy.

Hybrid was founded by Chris Healings and Mike Truman. Since first bursting onto the scene with the now classic album Wide Angle in 1999, the Swansea, Wales-based Hybrid have been known as one of the most forward thinking and technically skilled acts in electronic dance music. Blurring the line between in-studio production and live presentation, Hybrid are one of the few remaining dance acts to perform live with a classic band setup.

Their unique style of everything progressive has lead them to international star status, producing music for movies and tv shows as well.

This mix was recorded LIVE at the Two Tribes Festival in Melbourne, Australia back in 2004 and is a Hybrid DJ set.
