When I first heard about the occurrence very early in my youth I couldn't believe it, later it broke my heart and brought me to tears... I vowed that I would never remain as silent as many are on this issue, generations of descendants lost to vapours... to my knowledge the most horrible event in recognised and acknowledged history

I vowed to make a song in dedication to the event... while it goes no where to restoring the massive amount of lives lost, it serves as notification to many unaware and a dedication to those aware of what happened once upon a horrid time

PROGRAM NOTES
Although Deep Blue Ocean is not meant to be overtly programmatic, I thought it would be wonderful to explore the oceanic depths, so during a trip to the Gulf of Mexico I became a certified scuba diver. I was truly inspired, whether by the large rolling waves on the open sea, the delicate back and forth of beds of seaweed, the vibrant colors of fish clustering around cities of coral, or the beams of sunlight that cascade over the ocean’s surface.

I was also inspired by my four year old son Dylan: his name means ocean or god of the seas in Welsh; he is an Aquarius, which means the water bearer; he is an excellent swimmer, and he loves listening to a movement of one of my choral works entitled Infinite Oceans.

While writing this piece, I could not have known that the worst oil spill in U.S. history would occur just north of where I visited. The darker moments in this work are the result of this tragedy. It is in three connected movements: The Darkness Below, Sunbeams and Waterfalls, and Accents and Waves.

Deep Blue Ocean is written for Steven Gosling and Blair McMillen of the American Modern Ensemble and is dedicated to my son Dylan.

The main theme is another one from my distant teenage years, written on a small keyboard as a flute tune. 
My friend like it, so we fooled around with it and even recorded a song called ''Field of Dew'', as a satine of folkish/radio friendly love songs popular in Dalmatia, that alone probably influenced me to use the theme for a romance-like composition.
Sentiment and content wise, it is very personal, filled with melodies reminiscing all of turmoil one can experience in love, from happy moments like the first glance in the shared with one another in a crowd during a Metallica cover band concert, strolling through the sun bathed forest of Gorski Kotar, and many more, both happy and unhappy. 
This piece is dedicated to Vanja Kalemba, the mother of my son and also the author of many paintings I use as a art cover of my compositions.

While I was composing my F-sharp minor Fantasy, I found myself stuck on a particular middle section, struggling to find the right variation to complete the piece. Eventually, I succeeded, but before that happened, I wrote numerous segments that didn’t quite fit into the piece.

Fortunately, some of these discarded variations began to resonate with each other, leading to the creation of smaller pieces that I grew very fond of. The first of these became my Prelude in F-sharp Minor, and the second, the Moment Musicaux in A Major.

These two compositions share some motivic figures down to the note, yet in feeling and meaning, they couldn’t be more different. Despite the brief scope of the Moment Musicaux in question, I believe there is much to discover within it, with every new small section providing something unique and unexpected.

Dance of the Fire Spirit

"Whispers of the East" is a composition that blends tradition and modernity into a captivating sonic story, designed to transport you through diverse cultural landscapes and profound emotions.

The melody begins with the evocative sound of a Romanian caval, wistfully singing with authentic melancholy, accompanied by the mysterious tones of a bagpipe, all supported by rich African percussion, generated by tribal drums and tabla (an Indian pair of drums). This deep introduction sets the stage for a musical experience where the ancestral meets the contemporary.

As the piece progresses, the music becomes more introspective and contemplative, reflecting a soul filled with suffering and pain. This "dark mood" is not accidental; it speaks of inner struggles, of the pain and melancholy that sometimes weave through our lives. "Lingering Light in Winter’s Embrace" is a chamber composition for eight instruments, deeply rooted in the expressive tradition of the Russian musical school, profoundly inspired by the legacies of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Georgy Sviridov. Daydreaming is the stream of consciousness that detaches from current external tasks when attention drifts to a more personal and internal direction. This phenomenon is common in people's daily life shown by a large-scale study in which participants spend 47% of their waking time on average on daydreaming . There are various names of this phenomenon including mind wandering, fantasy, spontaneous thoughts, etc. Daydreaming is the term used by Jerome L. The list of terminologies assigned by researchers today puts challenges on identifying the common features of the phenomenon, in this case daydreaming, and on building collective work among researchers.

There are many types of daydreams, and there is no consistent definition amongst psychologists, however the characteristic that is common to all forms of daydreaming meets the criteria for mild dissociation. Also, the impacts of different types of daydreams are not identical. While some are disruptive and deleterious, others may be beneficial in some way.

Yes, I'm daydreamer. For this track I used acoustic guitar, oboe and clarinet, upright and supplement it with glockenspiel.

This is a an Armenian folk tune called 'Hovern Elan'. Traditionally it is played on duduk. In this arrangement I play it on a four valves quartertone trumpet.
