Since his debut on 2019’s Anjunadeep Explorations 11 with ’Sama', Simon Doty has put out four standout EPs on the label, his latest being the four-track ‘Solaris EP’. The Canadian producer has developed a reputation for delectable deep melodic house, garnering support from the likes of Phil Taggart, Danny Howard, Gorgon City, Cassian, Jax Jones, Lane 8, and releasing on Knee Deep In Sound, Einmusika, and This Never Happened.

Opening the EP with title track ’Solaris’, Doty shows his darker club side, reminiscent of 2020’s ‘Rave Generator’. The sun-drenched piano riff in 'House for All’ beckons the return of summer, whilst ‘Belikewater' and collaboration with Argentinian producer Ezequiel Arias ‘Requiem’ feature the progressive vibes that Doty is known for - the former track featuring on flagship label compilation Anjunadeep 12.

Simon Doty made his label debut last year on Anjunadeep Explorations 11 with the delightful ‘Sama’. Quickly following this, Simon featured on Anjunadeep 11 with ‘This Time’, a collaboration with fellow Canadian vocalist Forrest, and now the second track on his new ‘Airtight EP’.

Consisting of three genre-jumping tracks, the ‘Airtight EP’ demonstrates Doty’s versatility in the studio. Whilst ‘This Time’ introduces a warm enveloping soundscape, title track ‘Airtight’ picks up the tempo in a pumping anthem suited to early morning dance floors. In another change, ‘Noveria’ plies fluttering arpeggios and vocal chops in a whimsical finish to the Canadian’s debut EP.

Simon Doty’s origins from deep in Canada’s Western wilderness to a college basketball shooting guard are unlikely beginnings for the development of a finely tuned electronic artist. This sound selector and creator is a self-taught gear master ‘whiz kid’ with a profound understanding of musical composition and engineering that has earned the ear of his peers and heroes alike.

With a consistent yet dynamic signature sound defined by gritty analog synthesis, emotive melodies and tough, driving grooves; formative influences like Sasha, Hot Since 82, Joris Voorn, Eelke Kleijn, and Carl Cox are now counted among Simon’s most ardent supporters.  

After years mastering his sound and ascending the ranks of the underground circuit, 2023 sees Doty rocking a hot hand with an arsenal of original output on select labels including his debut LP ‘Universal Language’ on Anjunadeep.  An increasingly coveted remixer and engineer, Simon continues to showcase an elite command of his craft and a steadfast pursuit of progress.  Industry icons Pete Tong and Danny Howard have taken notice, with regular first plays and support on their BBC Radio 1 programs.  

Simon approaches music like basketball; eschewing self promotion in favour of a quiet, laid back demeanour that lets his music (or his jump shot) do the talking.
