Emotional Release With Emily Brewer

My husband James recently said to me, “We should drink some of that champagne down in the garage, it’s getting old!”. I’m embarrassed to admit some of the bottles down there I’ve had since London days but they’re extra special ones and I’ve been waiting for just the right occasion to celebrate.

And this is what we often do in life. We save our celebrations for the really big occasions, we let the special moments or successes slip by or we forget to celebrate. Here’s the thing, you don’t need to have champagne to celebrate but you DO need to celebrate your successes often (ideally daily) to truly find joy and fulfilment in life.

As a coach, I am very passionate about taking moments in life to acknowledge and celebrate where we are and what we have achieved. It is so easy to get onto the life treadmill and get so focused on the endpoint or goal that we forget to invite in the joy of the micro wins along the way.

On the podcast today, we'll explore the transformative power of celebrating success and its profound benefits for your well-being.

How celebrating your wins can change your life?

The Art of Letting Go: Ceremonies for Release and Renewal

In the coaching/therapy space that I work in, self-awareness is often heralded to be the key to personal growth and fulfilment. 

Self-awareness researcher Tasha Eurich discovered that 95% of people believe they are self-aware, however, only 12–15% possess both high internal and external self-awareness (I spoke about Tasha Eurich’s archetypes previously).

Eurich’s research suggests that there’s a profound opportunity within each of us to deepen our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. I believe self-awareness is the most powerful practice we can embody to discover true emotional freedom and deeper connections.
Imagine for a moment that every external trigger, every challenge and every uncomfortable conversation could serve as a stepping stone towards greater self-awareness. As we peel back the layers of our consciousness, we not only enrich our own lives but also become catalysts for transformation in the lives of those around us.

Leaning Into Discomfort: The Path to True Growth

In this episode, we dive into the challenges faced by those who feel too restless for traditional meditation practices. Inspired by a recent question from a workshop attendee, I explore how high-energy personalities and those who struggle with restlessness can still cultivate mindfulness and self-awareness without having to sit in stillness.

We often think meditation is the only way to build resilience and manage stress, but that’s not true for everyone. I share personal insights from my own experience, including how I found it difficult to meditate and what alternative methods I used to stay connected and present.

You'll learn about the deeper reasons for restlessness, such as avoiding uncomfortable emotions and childhood conditioning. We'll also touch on the role of dopamine and how overstimulation from social media and modern life can amplify feelings of discontentment.

Too Restless to Meditate? Here’s What You Can Do Instead

Welcome back to the podcast! Today’s episode is all about setting up your week for success with clarity, focus, and momentum. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or find it challenging to prioritize what's most important, this episode is for you.

Suppressing Emotions: Avoiding feelings like anger or fear due to past conditioning.
Neglecting Physical Needs: Ignoring rest, medical care, or body signals.
Self-Criticism: Harsh internal dialogue rooted in past fear or rejection.
These patterns can leave us feeling exhausted, unfulfilled, and disconnected from our authentic selves. Over time, this can lead to a loss of clarity and purpose.

The Cost of Self-Abandonment:
The emotional toll of ignoring our true needs is high—it leads to burnout, confusion, and a lack of fulfilment. Over time, we lose touch with our authentic selves.

Monday Morning Blueprint: Plan Your Week with Purpose

In this episode, I share my reflections on turning 50 and the five most important lessons I've learned along the way. Recording on the eve of my 50th birthday, I discuss how this milestone feels different - bringing joy rather than the emotional difficulty I've experienced with past birthdays. My word for the year is "receive," and I share how I celebrated with my soul tribe through a meaningful three-day gathering.

My Five Life Lessons at 50:

1. Unlearning for Potential - We're born with all our potential already within us. Our work is to peel away the adaptations we created to feel loved and safe, returning to our essential self.

2. Growth Comes from Challenges as Much as Your Successes - Our struggles and "mud" become the foundation for our growth. As Thich Nhat Hanh says, "No mud, no lotus."

3. Space is Where All Wisdom Lies - By creating space in our busy lives, we connect with our innate wisdom. Our answers aren't found in external sources but within ourselves.

4. Become Your Own Best Friend - Through my IFS therapy work, I've learned what it truly means to have compassion for all parts of myself. When we understand why our parts exist, we can soften toward ourselves.

5. Connection is Our Lifeblood - Our relationships hold the most meaning in life. As the Maori proverb says, "What is the most important thing? The people, the people, the people."

How to Digest Your Day

In this episode, Simone explores how living by our shoulds and shouldn’ts quietly shapes the way we experience our lives - especially in midlife. She names the cultural moment we’re in: uncertainty, saturation, post-pandemic fatigue, and a nervous system that’s often hovering between fight, flight and freeze.

“In 2005, holidaying in Germany, I discovered Human Design and suddenly my experience of life made sense.  Four years of study later, I became the first IHDS Certified Analyst in NZ and established the first professional NZ Human Design service. Since then I continued to study and qualified as a Human Design Teacher to facilitate introductory and advanced courses, retreats. 

I’ve delivered more then 1000 readings and as many coaching sessions and have facilitated hundreds of people in the process of getting to know themSelves in live retreats and coaching series. My particular delight is working with the felt experience of your design in your body and energy system either online or in person.
