Ook in Europa heb je tegenwoordig topproducers in het genre. Geen betere persoon om het beste daarvan in een playlist te gieten dan David Tricot, dé ambassadeur van footwork en juke in België. “Voor mij is footwork een versnelde versie van boogie funk, maar met minder heupenwerk en meer, euhm, ‘voetenwerk’. Je moet gewoon met de flow gaan, al doe je best je sneakers aan!”

« Footwork is hot ! », comme dirait nos amis amerloques, plutôt black, plutôt de Chicago. C’est là qu’est né ce mouvement qui fait péter le beat à des tempos de ouf, entre (acid) house et hip hop (a capella), dans une danse de Saint-Guy qui frise l’épilepsie. Mais l’Europe n’est désormais plus en reste, à voir le nombre sans cesse croissant de beatmakers qui se réclament du genre. David Tricot, notre meilleur ambassadeur en la matière (du Konichiwa Crew), résume bien le bazar : « Le footwork c’est un peu la version accélérée du boogie funk, qui se danse avec les pieds plutôt qu’avec le reste du corps ». Alors prépare tes sneakers, parce qu’il t’a dégotté du bon gros son qui vrille : du bon gros son d’ici !

In a small country, where traveling from north to south won’t take you more than four hours, connections between musicians in different cities are easily made. Koen and Wantigga decided to utilize their connections and form a team, which would symbolize the creativity of their ”colleagues”. People abroad have always shown great recognition for the many unique musicians The Netherlands have brought forth, so the name ”The Dutch” was quickly conceived. The concept behind The Dutch is to offer the listener an album that they can listen to while traveling; ”headphones music”.

22Tracks decided to partner up on the promotion side, while HW&W Recordings agreed to release the compilation.
The Dutch is a free release, available for download on January 17th.

A long format that speaks volumes about the influences that shaped the sound of the two friends: ranging from juke, house, dubstep and bass music, the album combines brilliantly melodic sweeps and complex rhythmic, supported by syncopated infra basses.

Rite of passage, the nine tracks that compose the album transport the listener to variously glacial, lush or mineral landscapes. A delight to be experienced on the dance floor, as well as in the comfort of our couch.

Long-time Techno protagonist and Figure mainstay Johannes Heil returns with a new 4-track package under his Cryptik pseudonym. Continuing the focus on a more leftfield, experimental sound, Cryptik emerses the listener into a soundtrack world of rich sound, depth of field and versatile, changeable moods. By no means a simple club record, all four tracks offer subtle and rich musical content, each telling a story with beautiful melancholic melodies and rushes of endorphins.

From elongated 10 minute journeys into the more reflective zones of Heil's techno world, snaking and building, showing off all the skills he collected over his 20 years-plus career at the top of his artform, Crypik is a dance on the senses. From the cinematic elegance of 'The Gate', or the bleep-laden epic of 'Radiance', to the post-house Piano led drama of 'Messenger' or the heavyweight synth swarms of 'Belief', the EP is full of passion and life, capturing truly magic moments.
