Forged in the pitch black recesses of underground Berlin, long-time conspirators Sawlin & Subjected have been making bold, distinct and largely faceless techno from the cloisters of their Vault Series home. Now comes the first in a two-part EP for Electric Deluxe, titled ‘Foreign Awake’, a much broodier spacy homage than we’ve yet heard from the pair.

Shying away from usual PR and biographies, Sawlin, Subjected and their third Vault Series member Mørbeck have been making names for themselves on the weight of their music alone. Raw, industrial hues, distortion and chest-caving basslines are some of the tropes that have coloured their anonymous ascension to date. While Sawlin has strayed a little from the Vault camp, Subjected has yet to release elsewhere. Until now. In April Subjected released his debut LP, ‘Zero’, which channeled his and the label’s respected tough and concept-free aesthetic into a fully functioning full length. But for Electric Deluxe they’ve served up something all together different.

Swapping their usual gung-ho floor artillery for swirling atmospheric vistas, subtle tones and cavernous empty spaces, ‘Foreign Awake pt.1’ sees Sawlin & Subjected paint chilling, post-apocalypse landscapes in three parts. Deep, dark and dangerously hypnotic, this is Sawlin & Subjected at their most compelling.

After a slew of excellent releases on Nein and Night Noise Lithuanian up and comer Zakmina joins Roam Recordings to bring forth his Digital Burn EP. The title track is a show stopper with its smooth and driving peak time energy full of swirls, electric guitars, and gorgeous vocal chants. The second original Don't Laugh brings a more twisted dark flavor building on the theme of driving main time energy. 

The EP is backed by two superb remixes. The first is from Berlin based producer and 1/2 of Pardon Moi Freudenthal who brings a sublime otherworldly feel to the title track which could fit the mood to any a fine seance. Rounding out the EP is John Parsley who, after his Schlanke Socke EP turned heads earlier this year, returns to Roam with an fantastic psychedelic electronic version of Don't Laugh.

All four tracks come together into a well crafted and cohesive slice of electronic music to fit a variety of discerning dance floors.

Cultures have a habit of clashing, colonialism, trade, all contribute to culture expanding. Sometimes for good, sometimes for ill. The current form of music is a concoction of sounds, polyrhythms and grooves which have been perfected over the course of millenia. 
Africa Latino doesn't sound particularly African or even for that matter Latino, however, it sounds like a healthy dose of high
octane techno which is nothing less than you would expect from Bufi, when he is not donning his Theus Mago's alterego.
Duro records have been prolific in bringing us tracks from the likes of Mijo and the Roe Deers and this adds yet another feather to the cap of awesomeness which is Duro's catalogue. This 3am stomper ticks all the right boxes melody, pace, urgency a savvy well placed snare and a bit of a wiggle to get us all going. 
If you like your acid with a tinge of all the best continents, then get your groove on, get back to basics and get on the floor. Get moving.

PREMIERE | Bufi - África Latina [Duro] 2018

XXX is back with an Split 12“ EP. On the A side we have Spencer Miles and on the AA side Zakmina. Once again XXX brings artists from all around the globe together on 12“. Spencer Miles brings us some dark brooding tracks all the way from Oregon, while Zakmina from Lithuania adds up to the heat with two bangers that for sure will shudder the dancefloor. The artwork is by upcoming photographer Joost Termeer, who is based in Utrecht in the Netherlands. When he heard the track he thought of fire, which was the inspiration for the artwork. We couldn’t agree more.

The Same "Mental Disorder"

In the beginning there was a river, later a series of parties, then we gathered as a team of musicians, and now Avacha - is a music label that shows adequate side of contemporary Russian music for club and home. The label location belongs to  the North-Western administrative district, but in fact it is based on the entire surface of the Russian Federation. From Far East, up to european part's suburbs - geography of Avacha musicians as wide as our country is. At this moment the Avacha family is: @wlfstrm, @sevenknives, @Soft Metal, @Volta-Cab / Rambal Cochet, @RadialGaze, @Panorama-Channel, @WhiteMagikmusik.

For almost ten years of existence, the Moscow band @trudmoscow has not lost relevance and still hits in the very heart of Russian reality with their romanticized songs in a good sense.  The album "7" continues the line set by the group, and the @this-is-avacha label presents an original spin-off in the form of remixes collection from Wolfstream, Soft Metal, Electrodynamics aka White Magik, Radial Gaze and Pozhar.

He may be a new name within the Madrid and European scene, but Julián García-Reyes’s links with music in his native Chile have been strong for the past 15 years. Coming from a family with a long heritage in radio, he led one at an early age – Horizonte, an FM station that had a deep impact on local young generations through its carefully curated alternative music selection. He also extended that influence into the online era, with a sister station called Rinoceronte.

Living in Madrid for the past two years, and since then retired from mass media, Julian decided to fulfil one big pending challenge in his life and learn how to produce his very own musical ideas. And with years specializing in house and disco, and later on, in psychedelic chuggy beats, he crafted a style that fits seamlessly within the current dark disco scene.

Released by Emerald & Doreen, one of our most favourite and dearest labels, “Sideral” is JGR’s debut EP, and through its three original songs, he showcases that deeper sound of his spectrum, complete with different layers of space and futuristic elements. “Avalancha” is a beautiful space-themed tune with a hooky bassline, exquisite pads and resonant synth layers.

The album artwork is a showing of great multi-disciplinary collaboration from his native Chile – with work from talented photographer José Moraga and designer Sergio Andrade.

Exclusive: Javier Ferreira - Repetitive And Constant

Barcelona-based (party)collective Side UP-crew readies its ninth release on their Side UP Works imprint, which comes from Javier Ferreira. The five tracker Organic Time comes with three orginal takes as well as remixes from Thomas Jackson and Cardopusher, who took on re-treatment duties for the EP's title track and Bouncing while Repetitive And Constant remains untouched. What might sound like an endless monotonous loop is in fact an elaborated care- and skilfully put together piece of music that covers everything to catch the dancefloor's attention and dancer's attraction. Intriguing vocals that reveal only as much as needed, a lush bass line that supports both, the spoken words and the deeply twinkling chords that are introduced in the course of the track and provide the track edgi-, deep- and sexiness something that shall be repetitively and constantly part of music.

Javier Ferreira's EP Organic Time will be released on Side UP Works on August 4th, 2020.

EXCLUSIVE: Javier Ferreira - Repetitive And Constant [Side UP Works]

Years of sweating in garage bands evidently prepared the Lipsky brothers to break boundaries in commercial club culture with a sound that somehow evokes the essence of psych-rock while never sounding out of place alongside certified technoid bangers.

Their musical breadth as producers speaks to their talent as DJs, with a deep passion for record digging that again conveys very specific sensibilities – a love for the exotic, the yearning for transcendence, as well as the rough rebellious energy of punk. They produce dance music from the margins, full of with narrative, melody, and drama. It’s intense, in a good way.* 

Their affiliations to broad-spectrum labels like Multi Culti, Disco Halal and Correspondant might paint some picture of their range, and their stellar remixes for artists like Nicola Cruz, Adam Port, Autarkic and Polo & Pan may have earned them lots of plays,  but their debut LP ‘Sorry, We Did Something Wrong’ is undoubtedly their most ambitious and elaborate statement to date. Drenched in their influences, rich in collabs with a range of artists like Sepultura’s Igor Cavalera and C.A.R., the record is at once ambitious and, as the title suggests, apologetic. Their capacity for embracing these polarities, a radical boldness tempered by self-consciousness, it may divide the audience, but it shows unmistakable personality.

Simple Symmetry returnes to Multi Culti with an epic, mournful EP called “Problem,” featuring a huge remix by long-time compatriots Red Axes. Another huge edit for CULTED is on deck, as well as a peak-time rework of Drugface, following up on their massive mix of ‘In the Clouds.’

*If you had to prompt an AI to get the picture you’d cite ‘dancefloor banger inspired by The Beatles, remixed by Weatherall with a bit of extra Ravi Shankar in the mix, recorded after hanging out with punk kids on their first E at a rave in 1993 headlined by Aphex Twin, CJ Bolland and the Prodigy’.
