The street was alive with hustle and bustle as people shouted from apartment windows down to friends below and music played loud from boomboxes on the corners. It was a hot day in the city, the type that might make you sweat. The rumble of the trains could be heard all day long, people being taken from place to place, wherever that might be. He sat there taking all this in, perched upon his park bench, smoking a cigarette, watching as the world went wearily by. This was his city, his funk. 

Black Loops appear on a new compilation for Hudd Traxx, a celebration of the fifteen years that the label has been in existence. It's an impressive feat, especially considering the consistency and dependability of the imprint which has released music by the likes of Dj Sneak, Iron Curtis, Nightmares On Wax, Chez Damier, Rick Wade and many more. 

This track is an ode to house in the deepest, truest of senses.

Music from Jinns and Tonic [Ep.3: Tennis Club Jazz]

There is quite an organic history to the Jinns and Tonic video series; heavily inspired by Katarakt’s Stoner House mixes and motivated by the termination of EELF’s first channel short of 200,000 subscribers. The first episode served as a call-to-action for rebuilding the temple that introduced multiple generations of listeners to the delicate pleasures of LoFi House. The culture pulled through and introduced new music from Quasar, DJ Ædidias, Nørus and several other young producers; setting a new precedent for premiering Various Artists compilations through YouTube/SoundCloud and giving exclusive content to the gate-keepers that deserve recognition for their curatorial duties. Consequently, Critique is scaling the influence of its artists and itself by facilitating these opportunities for all heavy-hitters, up-and-comers and superior-selectors to participate in something special, rooted in love for audiovisual ecstasy.

The third episode features the Critique wrecking crew DJibouti, DJacuzzi and GL4M alongside Rob Soul artist Dan Corco, Georgia State University student David Bulay, Francophone extraordinaire DJ Psychiatre and LoFi House's newest wizard TOMATOSLICE. While keeping to the series’ roots, “Tennis Club Jazz” departs from creating another hazy, expansive atmosphere and enters the Spring Equinox’s dance floor via red carpet, catwalk strut. Ruff Stuff teams up with Bress Underground for a long awaited return to SB... a new collection of Deep House tracks of the highest order from these Italian House Heads. Foundations is a steam roller of a track calling on Ruff Stuff’s love for Mr.G, with some tasty French House accents adding a nice funk factor. Sliding Sine makes us wanna go felt pelt on an Autobahn with its rich bass stabs under late night synth echoes with tough drum programming.

Bress Underground comes aboard to collab on the next two tracks and makes his presence felt. The Community is a punchy gospel House cut with crackling vocal samples and trippy chord patterns. Something About It closes the EP with expertly chopped vocals and jacked out grooves, more catchy chords, and some irresistible rolllllling London style bass.

There’s no denying that MADVILLA is in a purple patch. Following the success of his "Locked In EP" on Garrett David’s Global Swing - a record that’s already edging into modern classic territory - and the "6AM EP", the ninth release on his own Hot Wings Trax, the Californian-born, London-based producer returns with "I Said Dance!", a four-tracker that bridges funk-drenched house, West Coast groove and UKG swagger with his trademark laid-back cool.

Landing as the tenth release on Hot Wings Trax, "I Said Dance!" pushes further into MADVILLA’s singular vision of dance music - refined yet cheeky, classic yet future-proofed. Sitting right in the heart of this offering is "And Chill... (Happy Pill Mix)", a track that manages to distill everything that makes the producer’s output so addictive.

Opening with a nod to EPMD’s iconic “You gots to chill” vocal - flipped with a grin and softened into a mellow mantra - the track drifts effortlessly into a warm, grooving low-end, that signature MADVILLA bassline that refuses to pick sides between House and Tech House, instead occupying a sweet spot entirely its own. There’s bounce, but no brashness. There’s funk, but it’s featherlight.

A jazzy yet deep synth line creeps in, giving the tune its melodic heart - smooth, slightly melancholic, yet fully committed to the mood. From there, "And Chill... (Happy Pill Mix)" builds not in intensity but in richness, layering subtle pads, twinkling textures, and enough swing in the percussion to keep the heads nodding and the bodies moving. Deep, but not dour. Jazzy, but never self-indulgent.

Like much of MADVILLA’s best work, it’s a track that seems to radiate from the center of the dancefloor, best heard at that golden hour between night and morning when grins widen and time loosens its grip. "And Chill... (Happy Pill Mix)" isn’t just a vibe -  it’s a statement of intent from an artist fully in his stride, shaping his own corner of the underground with unshakable ease.

With "I Said Dance!", MADVILLA continues to prove he doesn’t just make tracks for the moment - he makes records that linger.
