Widely considered to be the “Barbara Streisand of Japan”, Saori Yuki released her debut album in Japan in 1969 and has gone on to make over 30 albums in her 42 year-career. Yuki discovered Pink Martini after the band covered her song “Taya Tan” for their 2007 album Hey Eugene! Most recently, Yuki sang a verse of “White Christmas” in Japanese for the band’s hit 2010 holiday album Joy To The World.

In honor of the year of her debut release, Saori Yuki partnered with Pink Martini and producer Thomas M. Lauderdale to create a loving tribute to the music released in 1969. Featuring Japanese pop hits alongside internationally recognized tunes like Jorge Ben’s “Mas que nada” and “Puff the Magic Dragon”, “1969″ is a brilliant collaboration, with Thomas M. Lauderdale’s magical arrangements, Pink Martini’s stellar musicianship, and Saori Yuki’s soaring vocals.

We have noticed it doing the rounds again lately on other DJs sets and mix tapes even tho we haven't had it available for download in a few years, so we've decided to give it a little freshen up with some new drums, a bit of Moog and some extra chops and make it available for free download....ENJOY!

"Train in Vain" is a song by the British punk rock band The Clash. It was released as the third and final single from their third studio album, London Calling (1979). The song was not originally listed on the album's track listing, appearing as a hidden track at the end of the album. This was because the track was added to the record at the last minute, when the sleeve was already in production.

"It’s a rare thing to find a reformed band that are better than the original” VIVE LE ROCK MAGAZINE 2011. 30 years after first gracing the charts with IS VIC THERE? GOING LEFT RIGHT and I WANT…DEPARTMENT S have been rampaging across the UK and Europe thrilling audiences with their guitar based sound from Wickerman in Scotland to Benicassim in Spain. With 4 original members, Mike Herbage, Stuart Mizon, Mark Taylor and Eddie Roxy joined by Back To Zero’s Sam Burnett giving the group a unique sound with two lead guitarists. Since 2006 three singles have been released, Wonderful Day, God Squad Saviour and My Coo Ca Choo with guest musicians such as Glenn Matlock, Marco Perroni, Mark Bedford and John Keeble. A new LP released last year “MR NUTLEY’S STRANGE DELUSSIONARIUM” was greeting by warm reviews and represents the more rock sound the band believe would have immerged had VIC producers(Buffin and Overend from Mott The Hoople) been allowed to produce the debut LP…….sadly the label wanted a more commercial sound and then went bust after the record was finished but before it was released thus the first Department S album was released 10 years after it was made!!!  2013 will see a new LP “The Constructavist’s Nightmare” and the band back on the road playing clubs and festivals.

Sinan Mercenk is by far more than your regular studio musician. He is a producer, songwriter, a radio programmer and a skilled DJ as well. If Sinan is djing, he delivers a set full of variety and is always looking beyond his own nose. 

The beginning
It all started  back in 1994 when Sinan Mercenk released his first single on legendary Container Records, hailing from Hamburgs famous redlight district Reeperbahn! These were the heydays of House music and Sinan started to dj across Hamburg and later on across Germany. Our smart guy belongs to the very first generation of House music, you might say. And because of his fresh style plus his outstanding selection Sinan swiftly became a well-booked Club-DJ worldwide. Helpful for his dj-career was definitely that Sinan is a diligent worker and so he released several singles on credible labels starting in the mid 90ties. No wonder that his discography is large and his ouput still numerous to this day.  Additionally Sinan Mercenk became an in-demand remixer step by step. He worked for major-labels like Motown and high-profile artists ranging from De-Phazz, Tarkan, Mustafa Sandal to Eddie Matos, Channel Two, Pamela and Levitation or Blank & Jones to name a few. 

Today
Finally in 2008 Sinan Mercenk started his own label ideedeluxe records based in Hamburg. It is his creative playgournd really and on this self-owned imprint Sinan released his debut album called  "Moments On Earth" in the very same year. On this varied album Sinan is prefectly showcasing his cosmopolitan character as a composer.
Sinan Mercenk is living between two worlds, Orient and Occident that is. His actual roots and his social background merging two worlds and you can definitely hear that on his two albums „Moments On Earth“ and „True Collection“ and several EP´s and Singles he is releasing! And while he is steadily communiting between his hometowns Hamburg and Istanbul he´s filtering the best out of these two worlds for himself and is clerverly mixing it into his music. Regardless of whether Sinan Mercenk mixing, producing, remixing or compiling, the club's unique social space for the curation and enjoyment of music is always on his mind. It is also why he's continually got responses from some of the renowned singers with whom he then worked, like is last EPs with Karl Frierson „Walk With Me“ or Pat Appleton „Curiosity“. On his new release "Occupy My Heart" Sinan Mercenk collaborate with Adriana Kaegi, co-founded the legendary band „Kid Creole and the Coconuts“.
