A steadfast beat pulsed from the speakers in each corner of the room, unrelenting in its energy and pace. You could barely make out the shapes of bodies amidst the smoke and the haze, only flickers of silhouettes would form when the strobes flashed. Tonight was a special night, it would be one of the last times they'd dance in this space; somewhere they'd frequented for many years; somewhere they called home. What would come next they didn't know, but at least they'd always have the memories of the freedoms this dance floor had given them...

Ombra International bring friends together for one last hurrah to close out the year. Their VA releases have become a cornerstone of the label catalogue and have connected artists from across the world who are operating in similar sonic territory, namely threads of acid, wave, new beat, EBM and post-punk.

For this one, which also marks the label's 24th release, they enlist the help of Tallin-based producer Sugar Rody, who makes his label debut; as does uju Records boss Shubostar with a new beat club cut; then we're treated to a flip of an 80s classic from Unconscious that features Ombra boss Curses on Vox; before the record is closed out by the guitar and synths of Milan's Astroloop and the psychedelic sounds of Chilean producer Aural Trace.

PREMIERE – Back From The Wave – Unzent (Factor City)

The Queer Northern-Ireland born Cormac is back from another busy year as a label honcho and curator with the second Polari compilation No Tears In The Backroom Vol. 2 scheduled for release 31st of January 2024.

The compilation is filled with synth heavy swings, acid basslines, steamy vocals and lots of fun, making NTITB Vol. 2 the perfect entrance release into the new year.

Cormac says; No Tears In The Backroom Vol. 2 is a unique family with offerings from Polari hitmakers such as Jordan Nocturne, ROTCIV, & Louis de Tomaso as well as introducing new talent to the roster including DJ City, Nimmo, Shay Shaz, Hifi Sean, Joshua James + Xols.

I curate the compilation much as I do a DJ set, so there is a voyage of sorts in listening to the compilation as a whole. I encourage the listener to listen as you would an album, although they of course work solo as well.

A 10-track long journey forms a unique force of anthemic sounds, tapping into nostalgia but never pulling away from today's references. No Tears In The Backroom Vol. 2 serves as a dance-heavy pursuit aiming to not hold back.

The label profits from the new compilation are going to charity. Polari has previously raised money for All Out.

Doctors Without Borders is a politically neutral Non-Governmental Organisation whose main objective is to treat people in regions of the world where they are most needed. They are currently most active in Gaza and have a further 70 projects active in the world.

"Water In The Moon" marks the highly anticipated album release by Dsum. Following his last album in 2022, Dsum unveils a 12-track opus meticulously crafted to explore the boundaries of electro sounds, oscillating between experimental ambient and Detroit electro. It represents perhaps his most musically rich endeavor to date.

To be released under his own label, Back Door, his fourth album is the culmination of years of introspective musical exploration, tracing its origins back to the lockdown period of 2020. A tribute to the genesis of electronic music, "Water In The Moon" pays homage to Dsum's electronic roots while pushing the boundaries of sonic innovation.

Drenched in analog warmth, the album boasts lush pads, expansive synths, and gritty 808 electro beats, crafting a mesmerizing mosaic of soundscapes that transport you to outer space. Every track showcases Dsum's production and electronic music expertise, with brief variations and instrumental snippets adding to a unified journey of auditory exploration.

Presented in two EP releases, The "Gravity Loss EP" and "Double Distance EP" serve as the album's twin pillars, each offering a unique sonic experience that brings "Water In The Moon" to life. Set to be released on both vinyl and digital platforms, the wax version of the album unveils ten tracks across two 12" records in May and June, followed by the full digital album release featuring all twelve songs in their original intended order, complete with exclusive additions.

Neon Carousel

FM label reconnects genres and builds new bridges between music, fashion and design. Established in 2019 by Milan Fatrla, label joins the flourishing scene of Prague with a vision of a music, in which the new revisits the old. A vision where strongly-rooted love for hip-hop merges with passion for everything electronic and danceable, to offer records where these two genres meet and reconnect. Every release offers a set of tracks which provide options for the DJ: dance floor slammers, broken synthesis and acapellas DJ tools.
With its modular attitude, FM label plays with norms of record sleeve design and fashion. In its first phase the label will put out three trilogies, each trilogy in a different package developed with local designers and artists.
First release by Credit 00, including a remix and an acapella from the mighty Egyptian Lover, is held in a cardboard sleeve which can be reshaped into a vinyl display holder.
