Touch of Class Records is proud to present “Once Upon A Time” an EP recorded by producer, vocalist, DJ, Navid Izadi. Hailing from San Francisco, Navid Izadi makes it an art to combine multiple influences in his music, his earlier experiences constantly resonating through his productions. Here he brings us a two-part track, with remixes by Tone of Arc and Kenneth Scott. Recorded in the Lower Haight district of San Francisco, this EP is the imprints fourth release, heralding the musical qualities that the label stays true to: a combination of sophisticated and eclectic rhythms executed with style and poise.

Part one of the original track is laid down with a moogy bass line and met with classic 808 style percussion textures mixed with provocative vocals and laughter about a night out-- taking us on a groovy ride through the colorful and transient streets of San Francisco. Part two evolves from a sexy and playful escapade to a stripped back, dreamy after-thought with the sounds of a xylophone in the background and Tone of Arc delivers a 303 bass line remix that electrifies. Kenneth Scott’s remix delivers an early 90s vibe taking it back similar to the classic sound of The Orb’s Little Fluffy Clouds Cumulonimbus Mix by Pal joey. The entire EP embodies a family affair with contributions by all San Francisco bred artists.

This last year was a big one for Izadi with releases on Wolf & Lamb & Soul Clap Records, but his creative output doesn’t stop there. Besides performing live, Dj’ing and producing quality tracks, Navid Izadi has done vocals featured on tracks alongside Deniz Kurtel, Soul Clap, Signal Flow, and close friends PillowTalk.

The weapons of choice are what they have been from teh start semi-operational analog synthesizers, temperamental ,  Tr drum machines and scratchy recording gear all forced into the computer. The name  Lowfish came from the concept of using mostly low quality equipment, the result being a production sound that is low-fi- ish. Since 1995 Lowfish has released 4 full lenght CD's/ Lp's and a stack of 12" singles on labels including Suction, Ersatz Audio, Clone and Satamile. He's remixed for labels including Morr Music, Ghostly International and even the National Film board fo Canada and has released scores of trracks on compilations for respected labels in the UK, Germany, Belgium and the US.

Beyond The Struttosphere blast back into orbit with the release of ‘Planet Ogo’ on Discolypso. The title track is inspired by progressive trance and fuses a driving chug bassline with a hypnotic 303 sequence, distorted techno stabs and a trifecta of meandering arpeggiators, creating a wormhole through space and time. Thunderous power chords and nuanced percussion layering guide the track towards a cosmic void, echoing with mind-bending vocal samples from the cult sci-fi film ’12 Monkeys’, before a high-voltage crescendo transports you to the Planet Ogo. Remixes are provided by two masters of the scene: South Korean cosmic disco royalty, Shubostar, applies her trademark sound, introducing playful melodies, kinetic arps and retro-futuristic synths that elevate its seismic breakdown into outer space. Spanish new wave maestro, K-Effect, provides a more psychedelic contribution, weaving in tripped-out FX, clinical drum arrangements and low-end synths that propel the tune towards its ominous conclusion.
‘Cosmic Stuntman’, the second offering, is as intrepid as its name suggests. The first half is a minimalist soundscape defined by crunchy guitar riffs, energetic tambourines, cowbells and an array of spacey FX, before the second opens in throttle with a ferocious mid-range bass, cutting snares and cosmic pads that build in magnitude as the track reaches its spellbinding climax. Dionigi, alumnus of Italian cosmic sound movement, remixes the track into a low-slung chugger complete with glitchy vocoders that resemble scrambled UFO transmissions.
The EP concludes with bonus remixes of BTS back catalogue hits. ‘Replicants’, originally released on Mélopée Records in 2021, is resurrected by Berlin-based electronic rock n’ roll band, Tegel Boys, who transform the track into a krautrock-infused kosmiche space odyssey perfect for tuned-in psychic travellers. Mexican dark wave legend, Rigopolar, follows with a tranced-out remix bolstered by robotic arpeggiators and mechanical guitars that propel you to Mach-10. Completing the package are reinterpretations of ‘Storming Heaven’ which first appeared on Emerald & Doreen Recordings and pays homage to Jay Steven’s eponymous book on LSD and the American dream. Argentinian dark disco producer and member of Ralph Lawson’s 2020 Soundsystem, Julian Sanza, cranks up the funk and reconfigures the track into a Balearic sunset trip. UK godfather of chug Rich Lane isolates the original’s soaring guitar solo and reimagines the track into a mesmerising downtempo chugger tinged with psychedelia.

Ewan Pearson can do no wrong, can he? For the best part of twenty years now, the DJ, producer, writer, and academic's been recording, releasing, remixing, and playing the kind of sensate focused house that feels like the sweatiest, most loved-up high you've ever had from a best mate at sunrise, which is why he's a firm favourite here at THUMP UK. We even considered erecting a monument to him in the middle of the office by the HR team didn't seem happy about the prospect, so we stuck to sticking photos of him all over our desk. Which makes us look like either the massive fans we are, or deranged psychopaths planning an assassination.

Just for clarity, we're the former, and that's why we're so excited to be letting you listen to Pearson's typically sublime remix of "Sleep Stream" by Berlin duo Languages.

The EP that the track's taken from, which arrives on Days of Being Wild on the 2nd of December, is the pair's debut, and it's a very strong start. Pearson's floaty and fluttering, agile and fragile, sultry and sensual remix is one of the most pleasurable refixes we've heard all year and if you're not charmed by it's lilting cosmic disco charms then, well, there's no hope for you.

Why are there not more electroclash tracks made these days, you ask yourself? 
Well ask no more because Lunatic Records have dropped a track which comes straight from the most scenesterist of scenes, nasty analogue vibes clash with a killer beat, those distant distorted vocals which allow for just enough disorientation on the dancefloor. 
The EP veers into the industrial techno realm which is fine by us! En Direct's first solo foray into production reminds us of DJ Hell, Tiga, Miss Kittin and all the other classic tracks from between 2001-05 without ever swaying into cliche or pastiche or any other of those French words which as simply a byword for 'Passe'.
