The comatose beep and ceaseless acid-like bass sequence of this Chicago & Detroit-influenced techno house track, propose you a journey progressing through different and subtle climates up to reaching a kind of climax by the last third of the track, at which an epic and warm pad and chords evoke the spirit of the parties and the atmosphere of the clubs in the very early nineties

From my large Depeche Mode vinyl collection, I gathered up all those b-sides, rare remixes and instrumental tracks which are special for me.

I set aside the usual house, electro and techno remixes, mainly focused on the dance floor, and I picked up the soulful down tempo stuff, with deepest basses, dirtiest drums, and more organic sounds and atmospheres.

I’ve mixed them up with a bit of fx, and the final result is a very atypical DM mix, dark and trippy and with the distinct analogical sound of the vinyl’s groove.

We at Sinchi love to support upcoming and debut producers and here is one that caught our ears. We hope you enjoy as much as we do.

Gonzalo’s (@gonzzy-gp) debut work is difficult to be labelled with a specific style. Simply said, it merges electronica and downbeat, among others, in an amalgam of many sounds and influences.

Going in detail, this close to 7 minutes track is like a film, a short story with multiple and differentiated parts. The intro made of harmonic layers of synths is followed by a kind of electronic jazz that swings mechanically and shuffles up to an epic stop. Afterwards, the very late real kick entry, is a broken downbeat that progressing at 100 bpm turns into a kind of slow-motion dub techno with its classic aerial sounds, on top of which, the electric piano lead and an enveloping pad are floating away. Multilayer synth intro, jazzy-soul vocals, cosmic keyboards, electronic sharped sounds & drums, downbeats, balearic pads, detroit techno influences, … Yes, difficult, definitively very difficult to be labelled with a specific style.

As a curiosity... the track includes the vocal samples of the great Detroit House anthem, Davina – Don’t You Want It (Happy Records ‎– HR1006, 1992). It was these chords that inspired Gonzalo to make this track, although apart from that has very little do with the original version. Anyhow, it is a very personal and particular tribute to one of his favourite records. A tribute to the Underground Resistance label, the producer Mike Banks and the vocals of Davina. Also to mention, the dj who made Gonzalo dance the most to this track some decades ago, Laurent Garnier.

Gonzalo has a passion for music since childhood, many & diverse sounds have influenced him such as soul, disco, italo, synth pop, new wave, ebm, new beat, acid house, trance, detroit techno, cologne sound, idm, … and above all Sade & Depeche Mode are his main reference bands.

Somehow the spirit & soul of those sounds are present when he plays or produces music, resulting on a unique amalgam of apparently contradicted feelings & emotions, as darkness & sentiment, longing & happiness, electronics & warmness, subtlety & forcefulness, sophistication & effectiveness.

Since his dj debut in 1992, he has combined dj residences at Concor, Forum or Car-P, Concuerda, with gigs at some of most relevant clubs in Barcelona area, as Lasal, Macarena or Otto Zutz, and has shared dj booth with many of most reputed djs and producers.
Now in 2020, he debuts as an electronic music producer with “Reinterpreting Davina”.
