Man Power returns to Echocentric. Swirling, hypnotic genre escapism for the open-minded DJ.

2024 has been a big year for Geoff Kirkwood, better known as Man Power. With huge EPs released on labels like Rekids, Make A Dance, Hypercolour, Sound As, and Me Me Me, he’s been as prolific as ever. In addition, he was invited to deliver both the RA Podcast and the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, just two months apart.

Kirkwood has also launched his own venue, Are You Affiliated, in North Shields, where he’s hosted standout acts such as Caribou, Optimo, and Gerd Janson. On the DJ circuit, he’s been seen playing back-to-back sets alongside heavyweights like Skream, Special Request, La La, Daniel Avery, Ewan McVicar, Artwork, and Erol Alkan.

Globally, he’s returned to an intense touring schedule, gracing stages across Europe, the US, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. Highlights include playing at Berghain’s iconic Lab.Oratory, Hi Ibiza, and DJ Harvey’s Klymax club in Bali.

With a new FM radio residency, an upcoming nationwide UK tour, and an Ibiza residency soon to be announced, 2024 is shaping up to be a monumental year for Man Power.

PREMIERE: Man Power - Spatial Relation

As the nights grow longer and winter settles in, Berlin's W133 is proud to present the label’s second major vinyl release. W133008, a split EP shared by label newcomer Insomniast and his friend Monibi, who returns for her second appearance, will warm up your cozy evenings or fuel sweaty club nights. This record truly offers a bit of everything.

The A-side, by Insomniast, kicks off with "Cut the Chord," a playful, house-inspired dancefloor weapon sure to light up many dancers' hearts. Following that is "Fooling Him," a break-heavy, darker rumbler packed with high energy. The third and final track on the A-side is "Istanbul," a melancholic, bassy dreamer featuring a Middle Eastern flute.

Monibi takes over the B-side, starting rough with "Your Hoe...," a 4/4 stepper which is inspired by the challenges of living and freelancing in the hustle and grind culture. The modulated vocal sample “I'm your hoe”  is about selling your labour, creativity, and skills and sometimes other parts of yourself like your boundaries.
Her second track, "...Goes on Strike," ties back to B1, offering a dreamy vibe with late '90s-style vocals, heartwarming arpeggios, and a rumbling, melodic bassline. It is a track about going on strike, interrupting the system, and taking to the streets in a joyful manner. A carefree stint of optimism.

The last track of the EP is a clashup of "Your Hoe" and "Cut the Chord" by label boss Pino Peña, combining the most energetic elements of both songs to create a powerful DJ tool.

The release is set for 1.11.24 as a limited 12” edition of 100 copies, as well as a digital release. The fully printed artwork features photography by Philipp Roth.

The debut solo release from the label head is a killer mix of acid lines, breaks, and electro, with a splash of experimental twists and a dash of Middle Eastern vibes. For their debut release, Goodness have looked to friends, family, and collaborators who have helped define the platform by featuring at the events over the years. The idea behind the compilation is to capture the essence of a Goodness night, casting a wide net out over a range of leftfield dance music sounds that might feature at the parties, from gestural, textural ambient, through figurative IDM and drummy techno and back again.

She was lonely as she strolled amongst the city streets. The sound of shutters rolling as shopfronts were closed for the evening, the honk of horns as people whizzed between traffic lights in the hope of beating the rush hour on the freeway. There was fog in the air, there often was around this time of year as the nights became colder and the evenings darker.

Billboards illuminated the street corners. Some looked up mesmerised by the bright array of dazzling colours as they flashed and flickered. Things people didn't want or need but would come to acquire anyway. That's the way the world worked right?

She was often lonely, from time to time she'd find a shadow or a friend which might be something to hold on to. But no sooner than they were there they would be gone.

Legendary producer Sweet Abraham, head of Diaspora Recordings, is making his long-awaited return to vinyl with a release on the swiss label imprint Léman Records. For the first time in a while, he feels the same sense of responsibility and excitement as in his early days with Defender and deep4life.
