This is a cover version of the Depeche Mode song 'Ice Machine' which was the b-side of their debut single 'Dreaming Of Me' which was released by Mute Records in February 1981 and reached number 57 in the UK charts. Geoff and myself were invited to record this for a covers compilation called 'Bright Lights, Dark Room' for the Cryonica label in 2006. Vocals on this track are by the brilliant Laura Cyganik.

The Burial

This is a track that Geoff Pinckney and myself put together in late 2004 when we first started working together again as Alien Six Productions. It was a  company that we formed with the idea of getting involved in TV work, production, remixes and songwriting etc. In 2005 we decided we needed female vocalists to work with and after many auditions and meetings with numerous people we met Laura Cyganik who was then a student at BIMM in Brighton. She was by far and away the very best that we'd seen and was only 19 at the time! But she had a maturity with both vocals and writing that were simply way beyond her years. Originally I had sing this song but it suited Laura's voice so much better so I was only to happy to replace the vocals. This song was initially based around a sample of a well known 80's track but later on we replaced that by painstakingly recreating the sample using our own programming and instruments. The track went on to be used by Konami in one of the very popular 'Dance Dance Revolution' games so was played all over over the world on arcades and in homes on gaming systems. It's very different to what we now do in Tenek but I think it does show that we can be versatile if need be! Enjoy - Pete x

'What Do You Want?' was released as the lead track on EP2 via the Toffeetones label on October 2011. It features Chris Payne (Numan/Dramatis/Visage) on violin and Phil Jones on cello. This track does not feature on any Tenek album and was exclusive to EP2. There are 2 versions available, the full length and radio edits are both included on the release.

Welcome to the eighth Vintage TV Podcast. Our presenter should be no stranger to you, as it's music journalist Paul Sexton, who you’ll have seen on The Janice Long Review Show.

Paul started writing for the national pop weekly Record Mirror back in 1977. Early highlights included a phone interview with a timid and not very talkative Michael Jackson, and he went on to write for many other weekly and monthly titles in the UK and US. He has written for most of the UK’s daily newspapers including all of the broadsheets, spending more than a decade with The Times. He’s been a regular contributor to the Sunday Times’ Culture section for the last ten years, and is a longtime UK correspondent for Billboard magazine. He did the first broadsheet interviews with such future megastars as Kings of Leon and Shania Twain, and the last with Pink Floyd’s Rick Wright.

You’ll no doubt have heard Paul's voice on the radio too. He regularly presents and produces documentary programmes for Radio 2, including shows about the Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Marc Bolan, Carly Simon, Dolly Parton, Burt Bacharach, Dame Shirley Bassey, the Four Seasons, Bob Marley, Al Green and Brian Wilson. He's also deputised on the network for for Bob Harris and Huey Morgan, and presents inflight shows for such airlines as Virgin Atlantic, Emirates and KLM.

“It’s so great to have the opportunity to work with the Vintage TV team and present this new podcast series,” says Paul. “I’m aiming to make it a fast-moving, bite-size summary of what to look out for on the channel each month, combined with news about upcoming album releases, reissues, gigs and lots more. There’ll also be a blog version on the website, so you can read as well as listen!”

During our recent live performances we included a cover track in our set. The track was "She Cried" and we based our version on the cover version recorded by PJ Proby in 1965 as a B side to the track Maria. The track was originally released by Jay & The Americans in 1962 and did well in the Billboard Hot 100. When we performed the track live it proved to be very popular, therefore we have made it available as a free download on our Soundcloud & Bandcamp page.

Although the track is available for free we would like to ask if anyone would like to make a donation for the track could they make the donation to Cancer Research UK. Dave Charles of Harborough FM is doing the three peaks challenge in order to raise funds for this charity and we have links to his just giving page and also the Cancer Research UK page below.

Bristol based Sinestar make their debut onto the worldwide music scene with the release of EP “I  am the rain” on 31st December 2011.

The band take their influences from many different genres and styles from the past five decades to create a sound which is uniquely and unmistakably their own. 

Sinestar fuse 80’s style synth led sounds with the soaring vocals and harmonies of modern day Muse.  Throw in a bucket load of dance inspired  grooves  for good measure and you start to form a picture of where the band are coming from. 

Formed out of the ashes of Bristol Band Jagged (RebCo Records), Sinestar already had a real solid foundation on which to build their sound.

Sinestar will be gigging their debut EP tracks “I am the rain”, “Hurricane”, and “Lived For” at various venues throughout the UK throughout 2012. 

Sinestar’s debut Album is due for release in the summer of 2012 and  the band is exceptionally excited to set their new child onto the world.
