The arena-conquering duo glide from gritty rave to skyscraping arpeggios on RA.1000, a mix many years in the making.

A new name undeniably entered the pantheon of major electronic live acts over the past decade: next to Faithless, The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers, now sit @feelmybicep.

The Belfast duo's music doesn't half reach for the stars: a melodic blend of ambient, breakbeat, trance and tech house, able to turn the biggest arenas into intimate affairs.

If anything, mainstream success, BRIT Award nominations and mammoth dance crossovers like "Glue" have only hardened Andy Ferguson and Matt McBriar's resolve to keep innovating.

Their prized blog, running for nearly as long as the RA Podcast, regularly platforms upcoming artists. And you won't find many festival headliners releasing climate change-themed records with Indigenous artists, as they did recently on Takkuuk.

RA.1000 exists in that spirit. After many polite declines, and before a year off to usher in the next era, Bicep come through at the last: from dub techno and screwface breaks to São Paulo garage, before a tide of signature synths floods the zone. Stadium-sized intimacy at its finest.

Welcome to part 8 of our Discord Member's mix series. After a short hiatus for the Summer, we're back with an absolutely storming mix from Samuel Davey. 

Hey there! My names Sam and I’m a 24 year-old graphic design graduate from Sheffield. 

Having studied in Leeds for three years at an all-arts University, this experience allowed, and encouraged me to explore other creative disciplines alongside my degree, and I’d still probably class myself as a tourist creatively, always wanting to explore new ways of making things. I think it’s probably true for most creative people that exploring ideas through disciplines we don’t fully understand is often more exciting than through the one we’re most comfortable with. This is the general mindset behind most of my creative endeavours, and applies fittingly to this short mix.

I’ve always liked music, but wasn’t really until University that I began finding music I loved. Much of this discovery came through house parties as well as events at places like Wire, Old Red Bus Station, Mint etc. some of which are amongst my favourite venues I’ve been to. It was also around this time I discovered Bicep, having heard Glue at house parties during my first year, I didn’t know what the track was called, or who it was by, but was keen to explore that sound more. Once I’d got ‘Bicep’ I must’ve listened through their entire Spotify catalogue in about a week, many tracks (Just & Aura being my favourites) being on repeat for the next two years.

I’d still class Bicep as the start of my journey into electronic music, leading me deeper and deeper into the scene. With like Overmono, Four Tet, Floating Points, Joy O, Kelly Lee Owens, DjRUM etc. dominating my listening time. It was also the Bicep Printworks Live Recording which got me addicted to Live Music, another gateway into a different music experience. Towards the end of uni I began actively travelling to see live music and became obsessed with the experience. I feel blessed to live in a country with so many great venues, despite a worrying number of closures, especially Hope Works in my home city, there is such a wealth of electronic music history here. With seeing so much music live, I thought I’d give it a go myself, so bought a DDJ-400 in my second year and played a few house parties, with Glue being a staple in most sets. From this point onwards I’ve been mixing mini-sets in my room, building up to playing to more people.

I think this generally covers my journey to where I am now, very keen to carry on seeing and playing more music live, and hopefully start creating my own at some point in the future. I was also inspired to document some of the sets I’d been to, so started a mini blog [90.6FM] on my website, also very much inspired by the FMB blog.

To celebrate the release of the Telepathic Fish compilation, we have a special ‘O Is For Orange 2025’ Bleep Mix from DJ Food.

"A version of this mix first appeared in 2013 at a night to celebrate the release of Boards of Canada’s ‘Tomorrow’s Harvest’ LP release. It then morphed into an Audio Video DJ set that I toured around the UK in 2019, playing the Bluedot festival to a packed tent that year. The idea was to thread Boards of Canada’s music with original sample sources, tracks they’d remixed, fan remixes or songs that fitted their sonic blueprint.

I recently resurrected and refined the mix for a gig booking, updating it into a new version. This happened to be a week before I was due to deliver my guest mix to Bleep and it seemed to be too good an opportunity to pass up. I abandoned the mix I was going to deliver and put down the first hour of the ‘Orange’ set including a video mix to go with it. I used stem splitting apps to deconstruct some of the tracks into unique versions before video mixing it all on turntables using Serato then editing the footage in Premiere." - @strictly

Welcome to part 9 of the FMB Discord member's mix series. This time, we excited to have Len Babshoot throwing down for us with a VERY special exclusive :) 

My name’s Joe and I’m an IP lawyer by day. I have aspirations to build a client base of DJ/producer clients but I haven’t made much progress on that so far (if you need a trade mark Bicep, hit me up). In my spare time I’m a bedroom DJ which I would love to build into a side hustle of sorts. I have played numerous house parties but nothing beyond that so far. Production-wise, I have made tunes in the past, but more recently I’ve found it hard to dedicate time to this whilst managing a job and general life admin. I am keen to get back on the trail however and I have been inspired by tons of new music recently and love the direction a lot of electronic music is going in.
 
The first time I encountered Bicep was ‘$tripper’, after successfully transitioning from a dubstep fiend to a house head around the start of that decade (but the former still lives within me, as you’ll hear in this mix). However, like many others, it was the Just EP where I really stood up and took notice. My love for the boys and their sound was cemented following a magical all night long set at London club Bloc in 2016, hearing ‘Aura’ for the first time, which sounded like nothing I’d ever heard. Much to my dismay, I had to make do with listening to bad quality clips of the track then dubbed ‘Unreleased Bicep’ on YouTube for the best part of 8 months before it was released. Since then, I have seen the boys countless times and particular highlights include sets at Glastonbury, Lost Village, Finsbury Park, Printworks and Drumsheds.
As well as Bicep, other artists that are huge influences on me include Joy Orbison, Burial, Overmono, Jamie xx, O’Flynn, Dusky and more mainstream acts like Disclosure, Kaytranada and Eric Prydz. My tastes encompass a range of electronic subgenres and I have tried to sprinkle a few of these in the mix. You will notice a blend of emotive tracks and more hard hitting cuts – I can certainly say that is a legacy of the impact Bicep’s music has had on me, which regularly straddles this line.
