I’ve actually been wating for this episode, great job! Another megaman boss that has a cool (kinda) similarity is the Infinity Mijinion stage, which sounds like a nod to Europe’s “The Final Countdown.”

Really enjoyed how this episode was put together! It told its story really well :)

The third installment of Singing Mountain’s look at how VGM interacts with mainstream music focuses on the Elec Man theme from the first Mega Man game. It sounds a lot like a track by Journey, but also like likes from REM, Cheap Trick, Bon Jovi, Human League and more. What’s going on here? I talk to some songwriters about why this one melody might seem to be a 1980s mainstay.

Elec Man’s Journey

“Lez Be Friends” (April 28, 1997): For a lot of ’80s kids, Amanda Bearse was one of the first gay people they ever heard about. And while Bearse came out in 1993, she got to put LGBT themes in the spotlight in a 1997 episode in which she plays both Marcy D’Arcy and her lesbian cousin, Mandy. It’s a product of its time, for sure, but at its heart is a fairly thoughtful depiction of a happy, function person who’s better off for having come out of the closet. Bonus points for Elaine Hendrix.

A Very Brady Christmas Is Gay Enough, Say Drew & Glen

For the 70th entry of the Honcho Podcast Series, we welcome LA-native @jake-muir. Fascinated by musical intimacy, Muir centers his work around the use of 'found sound', including field recordings, vinyl loops, and shortwave radio clips. These audio fragments are manipulated and welded together to further distance them from their original context. We thought a mix of soft, atmospheric tones would be a meditative way to begin the new year.

“Three Gays of the Condo” (April 13, 2003) Six seasons after its inaugural gay episode, The Simpsons revisited the subject matter in the age of Will & Grace, and the end result sent Homer to live with two guys in Springfield’s gay district. This one exemplifies what it meant to do a gay sitcom after the point in time when it was no longer enough to just showcase straight characters being surprised that gay people exist, but is this a worthy successor to “Homer’s Phobia”? Homer Moves Into the Gayborhood

“Cousin Liz” (October 9, 1977) 

After two years and more than a few negative comments, Drew and Glen once again focus their gaze on All in the Family, a sitcom about America’s favorite ignoramus. This episode is a sweet and it is elegant, and it shows how readily Jean Stapleton’s Edith can accept that love between two women isn’t at all different from her love for her husband. There’s no B plot and only three characters, yet this is one of the best episodes GEE has reviewed so far.
