Scratch That Itch

Prelúdio is the opening movement of "As Ondas Verdes", written by my wonderful college professor/mentor David Grimes as an homage to the Brazilian guitarist/songwriter Dori Caymmi. The Prelúdio is free-composed, intended to evoke the restless mystery of the sea. The wavelike motion of the accompaniment represents the constant undulation of the sea. The subtitle, "..... nas ondas verdes do mar... " (on the green waves of the sea) is a fragment from Caymmis' lyrics for "É doce morrer no mar (It's sweet to die at sea) The entire score can be purchased here:http://www.productionsdoz.com/en/as-ondas-verdes

Just in the studio today and finished churning this one out. Song is inspired by the Sun Dance carried out by the Navajo where they would dance for days or as long as they could keep dancing with no food or water. The dancers would keep going until they passed out and or started hallucinating. It was in this state the warriors would get insight into their future and look for direction in their lives.
