Reel People Music expands the fizzing dynamic between highly accomplished label associates Opolopo (AKA Peter Major) and Angela Johnson with the release of their brand new album Best of Both Worlds. The nine-track record is a sublime meeting of soulful musical minds, building on the pair’s previous ‘track-by-track’ collaboration, as well as influences ranging from Quincy Jones and The Gap Band to Ohio Players and The Isley Brothers, with purpose, poise and punch. Opolopo’s vibrant live-sounding studio craft meets Johnson’s rich and deliciously textured vocals – nuff said!

“Angie and I didn’t have any agenda when making this record other than just living in the feeling. The vibe between us was easy, as always, so the grooves and songs flowed organically,” Major explains. “The quality and range of Angie’s vocals blow me away. They add so much soul and feel-good energy to the tracks we create. More than that they pull everything together and take you on a journey. Best of Both Worlds is funky, driving, danceable… but it also has honesty and depth.”

“We didn’t want to make anything obvious,” Johnson adds. “This album looks to connect with the themes that concern and inspire people around the world right now. Peter challenged me. His musical ideas are really wide-ranging, which was a breath of fresh air in terms of pushing me to perform in different ways – from soul beats to uptempo to my gospel roots. We’re from different parts of the musical spectrum but fit together perfectly. It really is the best of both worlds, hence the album title.”

Based in Stockholm, Sweden, DJ-producer Opolopo continues to fruitfully explore the frontiers of funkiness after some two decades of productions right across the soulful dancefloor spectrum for labels such as Local Talk, Z Records and Defected. His remix discography includes Gregory Porter, Jungle, Leroy Burgess and Mother’s Favorite Child. New York native Angela Johnson was a member of acid jazz group Cooly’s Hot Box before enjoying solo success via a string of acclaimed R&B albums including They Don’t Know, It’s Personal and Naturally Me. During the Noughties, Johnson featured on Reel People singles Can’t Stop, In The Sun and You Used To Hold Me So Tight. Most recently, she has collaborated with Opolopo on hit Reel People Music singles Stay This Way, Good Lover and Sunshine.

Reel People Music is a label borne out of the success of acclaimed collective Reel People but representing so much more. Launched in late 2009, the imprint has built a fiercely loyal international fanbase through its passion for artist development, musicianship, song-craft and soulful groove.

Produced in Sweden and the US last year, Best Of Both Worlds marks the latest shining output from a renowned record label and talented studio partnership with so much soulfully to say. It’s a joy to listen.

After an extensive catalog of digital deep, minimal and tech house releases, Mole Music makes its debut in the realm of vinyl with a fresh selection of dancefloor weapons from a fine array of artists, each offering their unique takes on deep house, tech, and minimal sounds. The A-side kicks off with JHNS "Nevermind", a minimalist, low-end heavyweight groove driven by rubbery drums and a tight bassline. Steve End & Colau follow with a silky late-night hypnotic track, while El Funkador closes the A-side with an uplifting, drum-shuffling deep house cut, complete with funky synths and chord progressions. On the B-side, "Night Strobe", a collaboration between Alben, LAJE, and Erratic, brings a retro-futuristic feel with a fast-paced, garage-tinged vibe. Sir LSG began his career as a DJ in 2006 whilst studying to become an electrical engineer at the University of The Witwaterstrand. It seems the love for music soon took precedence as the young SIr LSG started collecting records. Soon after Co-founding Hood Natives in 2007 with 3 other DJs based in Soweto, Sir LSG enrolled at the Soul Candi Institute of Music to learn more about electronic music production. After completing the short course at Soul Candi, Sir LSG enrolled at the Academy of Sound Engineering to do a two year diploma majoring in Music Production & Audio Post Production. 

It was the 2008 Southern African Music Conference that became a defining juncture in Sir LSG's music path, when he caught the ear of the legendary DJ Christos, whom since became his devoted mentor. Thanks to the relationship with Christos, German producer Ralf GUM came across Sir LSG's song “Sax in the City” in 2011 , which finally found its way to light when released on GOGO Music. With remixes from another German based Producer Raw Artistic Soul, and a fellow South African DJ/Producer Nastee Nev, "Sax In The City" reached the second spot on Traxsource's top singles chart. 

To date, the Mafikeng born Lesego Sefako has had the honour to perform at various venues across South Africa, alongside South African legends such as DJ Christos, Vinny Da Vinci, Tim White, DJ Ganyani, DJ Mbuso and Greg Maloka to name but a few, as well as international acts; Ralf GUM, Rocco, Monique Bingham, and Portia Monique.  On his solo path since breaking away from the group Hood Natives, Sir LSG has since done remixes for UPZ aka Avi Elman, Ralf GUM, Andy Compton, Nathan Adams and MAQman. He has also collaborated with Brian Temba, a legendary South African R&B singer/songwriter and trumpeter Kafele on a song titled All I Am, which enjoyed great air play on South African Radio Stations and became a local dance floor anthem. In 2014 Sir LSG was voted by Traxsource at Number 20 on the Top 100 Afro House Procers of the year.
