I heard a cool remix from Tinlicker a while ago using this track. This was a bit of an exercise to see if I could still do this since it's been over a decade since the last song I worked on. I used the same notation of their bassline and the upper register pluck idea. I didn't do a full on recreation because their version is already out there. But Tinlicker's music absolutely inspired me to get back into this.

I'll be honest, I'd never heard of RY X until then. And, now, I've been listening to this song for weeks on end. I'll have to go through the rest of their songs.

Coffee House x SFAC Community Fire Jam March 2023 Edition

First original track in a long time. 

After watching lots of Derren Brown, I felt that his art robbery special was absolutely excellent. The painting featured goes by the same name by the Chapman Brothers. Does the song match the painting? No. But I like the long title. 

one day you will no longer be loved

Admittedly, it's not the best thing I made. But, I made a commitment to finish a song every month. Month 1 was "one day you will no longer be loved". Month 2 is currently out for demo right now. This here's month 3. I was really getting into Keinemusik and afro house, but I don't think I quite understand it, yet. How to really make it. Anyway, because it's not up there with something I'd want to really send out, but want to have accountability, here's September's track for the month.

speaking for trees

From "Clear Blue Water" in 2001 to today, it's been 22 years since Oceanlab started up. Since then, Above & Beyond has been a massive part of my musical journey. Justine Suissa was one of the first vocalists in trance I knew by name and sound. In short, Oceanlab was the first trance act I truly fell in love with. 

"Satellite" came out in 2004 and was a massive hit. I remember hearing it and wanting to make stuff like that. Up until then, I'd been just messing around with Reason 2.5 a friend of mine gave me. After a few hours, I thought to myself that it'd be impossible to make something that I truly loved making as much as I loved hearing. 

That has changed. While I was making this, I ended up zoning out to it and just dancing along. Singing along, even. It's still an amazing vocal. I guess this is more or less a "thank you" to A&B and Justine Suissa. 

The only thing I would change about this is turning it from a remix into a cover. I don't think there's been many covers of dance music, and maybe... Maybe I should be taking some vocal lessons.

Did you know that Nadia Ali just... doesn't sing for dance music anymore? I do. I've hella noticed. Honestly one of the greatest singers in trance music.

Siraph Can't Sleep Megamix

For the longest time, I've had these damn acapellas sitting in my computer. So old, they were on an old hard drive from my computer from 2005. In that time, I've made 2 other remixes of this track... both crappy... back when I didn't know much about music production. Just  base version of Reason (3.0, btw) and Live. 

Years later, I find them... realize that I was terrible back then... decided to make something new and delicious. 

Originally, I intended this to be a dance track. But every time I listened to it, I thought, "BT already did that... and I'm sure hundreds of other people have, too." (I think this was part of a remix contest back then). So, now that I'm here... I might as well shoot for another genre that I love. So, downtempo, here we are. 

I only did this in a few days... nothing complex. Just melodies, harmonies, and a drum track. I don't feel I worked too hard on it, but I like it just the same. Maybe one day I'll add more to it. But, as it stands, I'm okay with where it's at: part of my K.D. Black experimental project.

BT f.JC Chasez - The Force of Gravity (Siraph pres. K.D. Black's Sex in Soft Focus Remix)

After posting the sketch, I kinda fell in love with the sound and style. I realized that it's a style I haven't really worked in for a while... if not once, really. In addition to that, it's also the shortest track with a 4x4 kick drum pattern I've written. It also doesn't start with the DJ courtesy beats. I tried fitting them in, but nothing that I did made it sound pretty and transitioned well into the song. So, I deleted it, started the track at the flowy intro. It stuck... but I definitely wanted to play this in clubs. I eventually looked at other people's tracks and determined that I should try once more with a club version of the track. Honestly... it was very difficult to do it.. but I managed to put one out. The club mix, however, will only be on the release =P

Also, I couldn't find a sample of a finger snap I liked. So I recorded one and stuck a fast stereo delay on it.

Update: At the request of a friend (and later, realizing he was right) I pumped up the kick drum. Honestly, it just sounds better. Previously, it sounded too dull. Didn't really match the flavor I wanted. You know when you listen to a track so much you think it sounds great every time? And then you come back two weeks later and you're like, "Oh... Oh, no... what have I done?" That was what THAT was like. I also removed the tail end kick drums. I hated ending it like that... Like I had courtesy beats for no reason. 

There will be a club mix of this track, and it will include courtesy beats. But I prefer it without.

Artificial Nature (Original Mix)

Starting at age 4, Russell Paac started learning music. Studying classical piano, he knew very little about electronic music. It wasn't until he was 15 that he started listening and enjoying EDM. Under the Siraph name, he's put down multiple remixes and original tracks. The multitude of artists he's loved in the past are influential in his style today, with the likes of Above & Beyond, Lane 8, BT, Sultan + Shepard, Keinemusik. His Coffee House DJ sets are a study into music he's been gathering influences from since the pandemic, pandemic.
