Ben Lieberman is a composer, guitarist, singer, producer, patent engineer, and proud cat parent whose musical interests and endeavors span the gamut from emotive folk and love songs to psychedelic rock and noise-based improvisation, to microtonal chamber music and Musique concrete.

Ben’s chamber works have been performed by Sirius Quartet, City of Tomorrow, counter)induction and members of Bang on a Can All-Stars and Asphalt Orchestra. His fixed media piece, Aftergrowth, with animation by Bradley Turner, was selected to be included in the 2019 Echofluxx Festival in Prague. Ben was recently recognized with a Merit Award honor in the 2020 Division 1 Tribeca New Music Young Composer’s Competition for his string quartet, Amulet. In his chamber music, Ben strives to bring the ecstatic energy and rhythmic grooves of rock to bear on harmonic worlds that draw from jazz, spectralism and extended just intonation. Ben received an MFA in music composition from Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2019. His composition teachers have included Arthur Kampela, John Mallia, John Fitz Rogers, and Michael Early.

As a guitarist and singer-songwriter, Ben has performed throughout New York City as well as internationally. His performance credits include the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Roulette, the Whitney Museum, the Roundhouse in London, and the KigaliUp festival in Kigali, Rwanda. Ben’s performance project, LIEBS, takes shape in any variety of form and sound. His solo shows veer from the entirely improvised — where jazz-inspired runs give way to heavily effected waves of droning guitar feedback — to intimate acoustic serenades. As a band, LIEBS traverses terrain that has been described as “mystic rock.” (In as much as a genre label can impart anything of import, this one feels close enough to the mark.) LIEBS’ debut EP, phantasm, is scheduled to be released Spring 2022.

Sophia Jani is a German composer of contemporary classical music who takes a poetically minimalist approach to composition. She is the current Composer in Residence of the Dallas Symphony for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons, as well as the 2023 Musical Artist in Residence of the Arvo Pärt Center and recipient of the APC Fellowship.

Her music has recently been performed by the New Jersey Symphony, the Munich Symphony, Bang on a Can, musicians of the Dallas Symphony, the Goldmund Quartet, vocal sextet Sjaella, and pianist Eunbi Kim, among others. She has also contributed music to successful film, theater, dance and album projects.

In 2021, Jani was awarded the prestigious Scholarship for Music by the City of Munich for her solo violin piece III. Her debut album of chamber works, 2022’s Music as a mirror, received a nomination for the German Classical Music Prize “Opus Klassik.” In June 2022, she co-composed and produced “Tulips” with violinist Darian Donovan Thomas, which was featured on !K7’s String Layers Vol. II. And in July 2022, she participated in the Edward T. Cone Composition Institute at Princeton University, where her composition “What Do Flowers Do at Night?” was performed by the New Jersey Symphony under conductor David Robertson.

In addition to her work as a composer, Jani is passionate about building a diverse and international community of artists that open-mindedly addresses the challenges notated music faces in the 21st century. To that end, she is one of the founders and artistic directors of “Feet Become Ears”, which is a platform that commissions, presents, and celebrates contemporary chamber music.

Jani holds degrees from the University of Augsburg, the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and the Yale University School of Music where she studied with Martin Bresnick and David Lang, made possible through the generous support of the Fulbright foundation.

Tetra Brass zeichnet sich durch Kreativität, unendliche Neugier und experimentelle Offenheit aus. Dieser offene Umgang mit Musik schafft ein vielfältiges Repertoire, ausgehend von Original-Werken der Spätromantik und des 20. Jahrhunderts bis zu eigens für das Ensemble geschriebener und von ihm uraufgeführter Musik der Gegenwart. Neben der Zusammenarbeit mit Komponist*innen und interdisziplinären Kooperation bringt das Quartett regelmäßig (wieder-)entdeckte Musik, sowie eigene idiomatische Bearbeitungen für Bläser-Quartett zur Aufführung.

Seit 2022 ist Tetra Brass als Mitglied der European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA) Teil eines lebendigen Netzwerkes im Austauschs einer europäischen Kammermusik-Tradition.
2023 wurde Tetra Brass mit dem Förderpreis für Musik der Stadt München ausgezeichnet und wird in der Saison 2023/24 von der französischen Safran-Foundation unterstützt. Im Jahr 2022 wurde das Quartett mit 1. Preisen in internationalen Wettbewerben in Berlin, Paris, Wien, Chieri (Italien) und Vršac (Serbien) ausgezeichnet.
