The West Coast is home to many of the most beloved artists and rising stars in the dance music scene, and Jeff Saenz, otherwise known as JTJ, is one of them. Dance music has always played a crucial role in his life, having grown up with a father who DJ'd disco and being further immersed in the thriving house music scene in Los Angeles. This led to him eventually picking up DJing himself, and later producing, and the rest has been history.

Since first beginning to produce in 2015, JTJ has delivered a number of fantastic tunes both under his main alias and his Latin-infused Jeff El Jefe alias as well. During this time he's also looked to other artists in the scene including everyone from Doc Martin and Sacha Robotti to Bubblewrappe and SAAND, to work together to create some sensational grooves. Not only has this enhanced his production abilities, but it's further cemented his status as an artist to watch as well.

For one of his more recent tunes, "Imagine," JTJ looked to singer-songwriter Hannah Noelle to collaborate and goes beyond funky, tech house sounds and sees him explore the progressive realm. As your heart thuds along with the bassline and Hannah Noelle's serene vocals grace your ears, it's impossible to not get swept away by this beautiful tune. Paired with the track is "How You Like It Daddy" with Bubblewrappe, which switches up the style and was clearly made with filling up dancefloors in mind.

Wow we are so close to the big 200 but let's take a second to get hyped for this episode because it is with one of my favorite DJ/Producers in the game, Return of the Jaded !

I caught up with Zoltan over Zoom and had such a blast getting his full story in this one 🎙

In 197 we got it all in and discussed: 

•Journey Into House Music: Born in Romania but raised in Canada, Zoltan always had a passion for music. He started making rap beats in his early days but eventually fell in love with dance music and the limitless range of creativity he could achieve. ROTJ was born in 2013 with one purpose - to offer a fresh alternative to current trends in dance music. He continues to push the envelope on what's possible as a producer further proving that ROTJ is an extremely unique and special project. 🙌🏻

•Discography: ROTJ music catalogue is DENSE and full of incredibly well-produced and profound originals, collabs and remixes. We ran through some of his cornerstone productions like "Did You Take My Money" with Juliet Sikora on Suara, "Soma" EP, on Purified, "I'm In Love With You" with MELLY OHH and his most recent release, "Polite" with Malokyo on Sink or Swim. I'd HIGHLY recommend putting his music on shuffle. 💯

•Production Style + Approach: Zoltan has been producing for over 10 years and shared some of his humble approaches and styles for creating new music. During the discography portion, we discussed how some of his early productions are now coming full circle into some of his recent tracks. The evolution of his sound is still built upon the core foundations that he started with - always stay true to what inspires you.💫

If you haven't heard of Return of the Jaded already, let this be your friendly kick in the ass to hop on the ROTJ train because this guy is seriously special. Not only is he an amazing DJ/Producer, but he's an all around good guy who genuinely loves music. 👏🏻

SITB 197 feat. Return Of The Jaded (DJ/Producer)

When it comes to nostalgia, Nicole Fiallo does a terrific job of weaving together not only old and new sounds, but old and new cultures, too. Her Cuban-American family, her Miami roots, and her current home in New York City all come together to make her funky style both unique and familiar. The pace of her music has followed her personal journey with her latest tracks keeping time with the unstoppable pace of NYC. While she's been producing since 2015, Fiallo really hit her stride in 2021, and her 2022 efforts show no sign of slowing down.

After previous releases on the likes of Techne Records, Happy Techno, Wyldcard, and Baikonur Recordings, Nicole Fiallo recently made her Unlearn Records debut with the Gimme Gimme / I Wanna Jack EP. She brings some tech house-style heat to the Doc Brown-led label with this two-track EP. Both tunes are bound to be dancefloor favorites with fresh new beats and several nostalgic callbacks.
