This album introduces a new twenty-two year old artist named Mara Hruby from Oakland, CA. She arrived on the scene at the start of 2010, playing shows throughout the Bay Area, and is releasing her debut EP, From Her Eyes. Mara has worked on this album for the past nine months; she has applied her multi-talented dedication to recording, arranging, and engineering her own work. She has performed on stage, dancing and backing other artists in the Bay Area; unconsciously preparing herself for this path. She has chosen to speak through music in order to connect with those of us who love music. 

These seven tracks represent the genesis of the view “From Mara’s Eyes” of the various works of her favorite male artists. Each song is connected to a memory experience in Mara’s young life. The beauty and elegance of Van Hunt’s “Character,” Bob Marley’s love of Jah, Mos Def’s soulful poetry, André “3000” Benjamin’s “Take Off Your Cool,” as well as D’Angelo’s “Send It On” – are all examples of art forms from today’s exceptional musicians.

SWEATER FUNK has been fortunate enough to share the stage with the vanguard of musicians and producers in the future funk music movement. From our first event presenting French beatmaker ONRA to opening up for R&B legend STEVE ARRINGTON (formerly of the group SLAVE), we've been honored to get down with the very best in modern soul, boogie and funk.

This mix is merely a highlight and sneak peek of our upcoming NYE with OPOLOPO + AMALIA @ SOM. in SF...some of the artists we've worked with most recently and a taste of the music we're digging from DAM-FUNK, KUTKORNER, B. BRAVO, K-MAXX and THE PENDLETONS. Most of these tunes are available if you do a simple Google search, so we recommend you go out and track'em down (and PAY for them) in their full glory. In the spirit of obscure goodies you can only hear coming out of the Sweater Funk basement, we've included an exclusive tune from SF's THE PENDLETONS which features our very own SABRINA on vocals.

After Indian Summer and Remixxes Vol. 1, <a href="http://soundcloud.com/oaklandfalcons">Falcons</a> unveils their first single to be released on Juicy. Nigeria is a dark track, a solitary noctural trip through the buildings of a deserted town. Mingling uptempo juke rhythms, R&B and an unique blend of glitchs, coupled with samples taken from the African culture, the whole still has a modern flavour, showing us, once again, the extent of the duo's influences. On the other hand, English boy <a href="http://soundcloud.com/bobbytank">Bobby Tank</a> took us to a sunnier journey with his henceforth recognizable touch : ireful synths lines along with a restructured sample, these are the qualities of this remix that will fit every future funk amateur's expectations.
