A small little piano that I stumbled across accidentally in Gleetchlab this morning.

I liked it so much I wanted to share it.

Piano Phase

A field recording of a vintage John Deere tractor from the 1930s. The recording consists of the tractor starting up, idling and then powering down. Recorded from a few different perspectives and presented as one mix of these various recordings. 

The tractor was purchased by a friend's great-grandfather in the 1950's and has been part of the family ever since; it now belongs to her father.

    Vinyl Drag is an experiment that I did as part of my second year of studies. Over a number of months I made an audio diary documenting the degradation that takes place on a 12" vinyl record. Starting in October 2008 and ending in April 2009 I mistreated this slab of vinyl; leaving it out of it's sleeve, dropping objects on the surface and just generally disregarding the very strict rules that every Vinyl Aficionado follows.
    
      The track presented here is an amalgamation of all the recordings I made in a linear fashion starting from when the record was brand new up until it was almost unplayable. The fades are seamless so what you hear is a slowly degrading composition.

Vinyl Drag

A hasty field recording of a church in Mitte, Berlin. The recording was done from within a narrow street so the sound waves are bouncing all over the place.

If you listen closely you can hear the drone of the long reverb tail. It's like natural delay. Lovely.

DERIVE Movement

The Cloud Nocturnes is the final movement of Soundscapes Radio • episode seven which broadcast on the 4th of October. 

The Cloud Nocturnes is a three movement suite of music; this video represents the final movement. 

The title of this suite, The Cloud Nocturnes, gives a nod to both György Ligeti and his concept of creating "Cloud"-like textures with the orchestra and the "Nocturne" compositions by Chopin & Debussy et al.; i.e. music inspired by, or evocative, of the night.

A moment in time inspired by the chance meeting of a pair of souls.
