Quantum Entanglement is one of the strangest phenomena in the Universe, overcoming barriers of space and time and knitting the entire cosmos into an integrated whole.

Fin Greenall (Fink, Sideshow) and myself Lee Jones (Hefner, MyMy) met at college in the early nineties and played a lot of chess to the soundtrack of Aphex Twin and Future Sound of London. Fin taught me the guitar. I taught Fin Cubase. We shared our first releases together as EVA on Kickin' Records, then Ninja Tune. I started a band, Hefner, while Fin was mainly a DJ. Then we switched. Fin became a singer-songwriter, I moved to Berlin and formed MyMy with Nick Höppner, then started to DJ.

We followed our own paths which have often crossed, remixing each other's music, helping each other with our writing, and releasing on Aus Music (which Fin started with Will Saul), but we've always wanted to really collaborate again.

Between my studio in Berlin, Fin's studio in Brighton, and various studios, hotels and airports around the world, that project has finally taken the shape of Quantum Entanglement. Two separate worlds linked by friendship and a feeling that goes back to those early days of ambient, dub, chess and incense, now made possible by the internet. Files, old tracks, samples and words are flying back and forth, eventually forming 2 versions of a song. Heads and Tails. Question and Response. Move and Counter-Move. The game has begun.

The first release of the new year has to be a special one, with 2014 being no exception. After strong EPs on Light my Fire and various remixes, Dan Caster presents an absolute treat on Stil vor Talent, his ‘Bleeding’ EP. 	

The title track kicks things off: here, Benjamin Franklin’s soulful voice carries us through a sea of dub chords, which slowly build into an emotionally charged climax. Kyodai’s remix then offers itself as an ode to classic deep house, as one encounters warming piano keys and saxophone sounds in perfect harmony with the original’s vocals. For ‘Nouvelle Future’ Dan enlists Björn Störig. It’s instantly obvious that the pair is a good match; their organic sunset-house is made for those epic dance-floor moments. Aided by a driving groove, Oliver Schories then accentuates the guitar and vocal elements of the original to great effect. Next up, Dan delivers an outright party-starter in the form of ‘Freaky, Noisy’, which, lastly, KANT reworks with a nod to electro for good measure.

C'est au tour de la cadette, la bien nommée JFX Bits 6 de faire ses preuves.
23 titres aux esthétiques métissées, pas de quoi rougir face à ses aînées. Ici, le parti pris ne se retrouve pas tant dans les styles abordés, mais plutôt dans le vent frais qui souffle sur cette compilation. L'ambiance qui s'en dégage y est clairement plus apaisée, colorée, moins rentre-dedans, une transition idéale après un hiver rigoureux. We told you that Congo Natty aka Rebel MC was more than a legend and now it's time to prove it. For your listening pleasure the one and only Uncle Dugs (Rinse FM) has compiled a mix that takes the listener all the way through Mikail Tafari's career, from the early Rebel MC & Double Trouble days right up to the last few years. 

Seventy eight minutes charting the birth and development of Jungle, the mix works as a perfect taster for the forthcoming Congo Natty opus, "Jungle Revolution." Arguably enjoying the most prolific artistic form of his life, Defected presents MK In The House is, somewhat unbelievably, his first ever mix compilation and provides a snapshot of where he currently sits; a two mix project taking in Lana Del Ray, Dusky, Jamie Jones, FCL, Huxley and Kings of Tomorrow, as well as a handful of exclusive MK remixes. 

Defected presents MK In The House showcases a hand-picked selection of records both new and old. Rather than aiming for different vibes on each of the two discs, the Detroit DJ has recorded one long session that was simply split in two.  “A lot of my DJ friends, I thought they did their mixes and podcasts live, but a lot of them use Ableton” he admits.  “This was the first time I did it that way and it was pretty cool for me.”

In addition to the two studio mixes, the release includes 10 additional MK releases and remixes, from 4th Measure Men ‘Given’ to his recent remix of Inner City’s timeless ‘Future’. Over the past few years, MK has enjoyed a renaissance and subsequent rich vein of form in a career that was already exceptional, and Defected presents MK In The House may very well be the mix of his life.

Olaf Hilgenfeld and Iftah Gabbai aka Skinnerbox met under strange circumstances in Berlin back in 2003. The first years of their musical marriage has been a rather abstract electroacoustic journey that slowly got transformed by the neo-hippie rave renaissance that washed Berlin the years after. While growing up with places like the Bar25 and legendary party makers as the Bachstelzen, Skinnerbox always maintained a very individual identity, famous for their infamous improvised and truly live played shows (reaching another peak while performing a 12 hour live set at Kater Holzig, Berlin 2013) notoriously free from any obligation or trends. With a good dozen of singles on labels like BPitch Control, Darkroom Dubs, Bar25 Records, Tonkind and more plus a highly acclaimed full length studio album on Doxa Records ("If this is the future of techno, then we have a lot to look forward to!", Xlr8r) Skinnerbox have positioned themselves well above the inflationary electronic scene hailing from Berlin.
In 2009 Skinnerbox released the sbx 2049 - a drum machine which made them the first artists to release an instrument in conjunction with Ableton.
In 2014 - after 3 years of intense work - Skinnerbox ended up with another official Ableton Live instrument, an epic drum machine which is unlike anything you ́ve ever seen before: Time & Timbre.
