Working with Pretty Bleak's Sam Thomas, Left at the Avenue spent the end of 2024 consolidating their upcoming sophomore EP, Lola. ‘New York’ marks the first taste of what’s to come for the indie-rockers whose new sound captures elements of post-punk, shoegaze and a hint of dramatized emo. ‘New York’ outlines frontperson and lyricist Henry’s self-reflection following relationships that found him questioning his own perception of what romance means to him and his own shortcomings throughout them.

Naarm/Melbourne band ‘SKIPTONS’ have begun a transition from their indie rock/surf rock foundation to explore the darker and moodier sounds of post-punk and shoe-gaze while still hanging on to traces of indie rock that established the band in the Melbourne scene. ‘I Need Your Hand In This’ will be a milestone single for ‘SKIPTONS’, being the first single since exploring darker tones and themes, as well as being the most lyrically and instrumentally raw song the band has had to offer to date. Written by Finn Barnes, Jordan Vail and James Kronberger, ‘I Need Your Hand In This’ is a punchy, violent and wild sounding track which lyrically tries to make an understanding of the spectrum of feelings that one may experience post an argument. 

‘I Need Your Hand In This’ is undeniably instrumentally inspired by Fontaines DC’s album ‘Skinty Fia’ with the gothic-indie blend of guitars and dissonance. Influence also heard on the song can be found in the dirty, driving bass lines that are heard throughout the Viagra Boys and IDLES respective discographies, as well as the chaotic synthesisers, guitar noise and primal vocals primarily heard at the end of the song, aimed to end with a feeling of uneasiness and uncertainty.
