Built by DJ Blackley, Cre8Dnb has provided a hub for similarly minded producers, spearheaded by one of the most imperative names across the live circuit. Having already broken world records for his quick-fire mixing skills, DJ Blackley turned his attention to releasing music, although not just his own. Cre8Dnb was constructed so that Blackley could showcase the music which makes his sets as identifiable as they are. And one of these artists is L3mmy Dubz, who’s first EP on the label received support from a wide array of figureheads, even outside of drum & bass, including Pendulum, Noisia, DJ Craze and Jaguar Skills. Whilst ‘Aeon’ was the focus around L3mmy Dubz last EP on the Cre8Dnb moniker, this time it’s ‘Lightspeed’, whilst the remaining three records to be featured on the track listing push L3mmy Dubz as the diverse artist that he is. 

The ‘Lightspeed’ EP brings together the musicality which L3mmy Dubz has been working on since even before he picked up so much traction. ‘Cargo’ features punchy bass, and plucked instrumentals leading you into its first climatic drop. You’re taken down a dark and heavy hole following its first breakdown, punctuated by clunking percussion and a groove which cuts its way through the mix. ‘Komoebi’ is the next one on the list, just as hectic in its roll-out despite steppy-pads taking you into its depths. ‘Phobia’ is slightly more understated in its approach, brooding as you’re drawn into its whirling soundscape, the type to show the complexity within L3mmy Dubz production. 

Main-track ‘Lightspeed’ finishes the EP and it makes a colossal impact, leaving a lasting impression on its listener. ‘Lightspeed’ is hectic and as its name suggests, it ricochets after its first riotous kicks. The track then continues its descent, becoming more and more vicious with every driving hook. There’s a toe-tapping appeal to ‘Lightspeed’ and this is something which instantly catches you, proving that L3mmy Dubz still has more to shoot from within his sonic artillery. This is another climatic release from L3mmy Dubz; his new music is sure to be a soundtrack for the forthcoming festival season.

HighR8 Digital is an imprint which has run for nearly ten years and since its beginning in 2011 they have catered to the contemporary market, doing so by bringing their fans only the most upfront drum & bass which has fallen into their laps after creating such a formidable platform. Drawing from producers all over the world, they’ve been able to showcase both established names and newcomer producers alike, drawing from a widespread base to find the music which fit the ethos they created when they first started releasing music on the label.
An example of what this ethos means can be heard throughout Spaow’s forthcoming EP on the imprint. ‘Downtown Melody’ brings together a host of styles in the typically Spaow way, presenting a diversity which has been packaged by the producer and one which also features his tell-tale, biting spikes throughout. Whilst, as the name suggests, the EP is peppered with a musicality, it still holds weight through its smashing drums and contorted basslines.

Beginning track ‘Downtown Melody’, the EP’s namesake, goes straight for the jugular with its first breakdown. Pumping drum sequences and quaking peddles of sub bass draw you deep into the track, straight away letting you know that this is an inherently Spaow record. He doesn’t pull any punches throughout and every twist of bass takes you along with its driving motion. ‘Rude CPU’ rolls through next and it features glitchy, game-like samples which create a contemporary feel throughout. For the next part of the track list, Spaow delves into the world of ‘Run’. Formulated through old-school sound breaks and grating hooks, it’s a tear out anthem which is sure to grab attention across any dancefloor it’s dropped onto, with a neuro-jungle fusion. The final track is ‘Sonatra’, with Sqolsh brought into the equation for a collaboration, providing another slamming, no-holds-barred record which perfectly sums up the dynamics of this forthcoming release.

Jump up maestro Spaow proves his weight with HighR8 Digital. He brings the subgenre through his own lens and in doing so, creates some of the most versatile strains the drum & bass world has heard over recent times.
